To compete we certainly need 2-3 players in our line up with good technical ability. Trouble is, shopping in the domestic markets limits your options a lot.

Compared to the rest of the top 7, we've got far and away the worst level of ball control, that's for sure.

If we don't sign a few overseas players, we'll never really see a marked impovement on our football, without a few more technically gifted players. But I think that's secondary in Martins scouting system, behind strength, pace, and stamina.

Tom, I wouldnt class Ashley Young as a strong player that lacks talent, or Downing.  I think he is trying to get a mix in there.

I think it's a case of £10m for a PL based player v £10m for an overseas player, then Martin will plump for the PL player.  He was quoted a while ago that he felt the overseas bargains were not there anymore.

Taken into account the extra factor of adjusting to PL football and living in this country, who's to say he's wrong?

EDIT: that's presuming they are percieved to be of equal ability.

the respective value of the £ and the € also means that European based players are about 20% more expensive now both in wages and transfer fees. Making it both more expensive and the "EPL" no longer more attractive for a young Croat (or whatever) compared to say germany.

That's not to say MON shouldn't be looking however I am sure he is.

I think Milner and Petrov are both good footballers also, and confortable on the ball, for me it all breaks down between our midfield and the front men.  I think we either need a link forward, like Keane or a younger version, or we play Reo Coker or a better version alongside Petrov with Milner pushed further up the park.  I would then like to see all 3 of Downing, Young and Milner interchange and not just the 2 widemen.

Not saying none of them have got a bit of class, but Ash and Downing are typical old fashioned chalk dusting wingers, which O Neill likes.

Ash is probably our most technically gifted player right now. I'd love us to get a fancy dan South American though. Won't happen though.

Milner will leave the club this summer, we have to look at building a team without him.
Forget any ideas that he might stay, he won't be.

Mons teams are always built on being hard to beat first and foremost, the fighting spirit and strength of character is top rate, but I'd like him to be more adventurous at times and gamble for a win rather than be more worried about losing.

Watching the game now and Forlan has so much craft to his play.

I think he'd be a class signing for us. Scores goals, makes goals, can keep on running. He's a quality player, who never got much of a chance at Utd.

He'd be exactly the sort of player we need. I think we'll get the poor mans equivilant Robbie Keane, which I wouldn't mind, but ideally, Forlan would be better.

Bilal Yusuf Mohammed

Ribery's adopted Islamic name apparently.
I've never heard him called this.

Atletico Madrid have had Forlan's best years.

I think Forlan is older than Keane and they'd want too much given his age.

Haven't you been paying attention? MON is not interested in any players not from north-west Birmingham. And he's ALWAYS wrong.

Got it?

A disturbing rumour that I keep hearing is that Blues are in for Fabrizio Miccoli of Palermo. This is a bad thing because he is ace, much like an Italian Tevez. I'm not saying that we should sign him but I hope he has more sense than to get suckered in signing for those bowlheads down the road.
