there's a  difference between getting a bargian and paying the going rate for the player at the time who goes on to be worth more.. Milner for instance was only sold because we offered way over what Newcastle thought he was worth. Would he have cost more a month erlier? Nope.

Patience in the transfer market is not about saving money, it's about getting the players you want.

Yes, it's frustrating for us, waiting for new signings but sometimes the long game pays off. If MON had panicked last summer, we would have signed a centre-back in May and not got Dunne... once City had signed Toure and Lescott and deemed Dunne surplus.

Like it or not - and it's perhaps also a handy excuse for MON, considering his modus operandi - the World Cup is going to mean a lot of business conducted in late July and August. Better get used to the waiting.

Just a bit of name dropping....Craig Bellamy was in my shop today doing some grocery shopping with child and missus...had a chat
Told him i was a Villa ST holder and would love him to come...he said he would love to work with MON again as he is superb but that would def not happen at Villa
He is desperate to go to his home club Cardiff but they cannot afford his salary.
Mentioned Spurs as a possible move...very nice guy to chat with and very honest and up front

Finally a genuine ITK. Didn't elaborate on why he definitely wouldn't be working with MON at the Villa then? I would assume it to be the wages issue.

Oh and what did he buy?

He was pushing his little girl around in the pushchair whilst his wife managed to spemd about a £100 quid on general food shopping

Noses are chasing Paul Koncheskey. I think at the price suggested (£2million) he'd be a good signing as left back cover.

I've always rated Koncheskey.  If he's happy to not be first choice we should be having some of that!

Koncheskey is the left back version of Luke Young.

MON will hate him.

How do you define getting a bargain if it isn't buying a player before everone else realises he is worth at least double? Are you able to give an example or two of players that were a bargain?

Let's be careful here.  If he concludes that we only paid what he was worth at the time, then MON and the coaching staff must have done great work with him to improve his as a player.  Such a conclusion would force a logic flaw in his programming and he'd curl up into a little ball crying "...does not compute...does not compute..."

Is anyone really getting impatient?

It is June. Forget the transfer market, very little will happen with the World Cup on in any case. By the time it's over, that's when things will start moving, but until then it'll be very quiet, I imagine.

well thats 10 clubs who've brought someone in now. will we beat last years record before MON gets back from Tenby?

God only knows whether he was serious or not, but that's what sparked the discussion.

Christ, Greg, it's the second week in June.

The players are at the World Cup, or having it large in Dubai or wherever. Not a lot is going to happen for a fair while yet.

Besides, I understand Martin, Geraldine and the kids take a static caravan just outside Perranporth these days.

But we get here every summer. And every summer some get into an apoplexy of rage that MON hasn't signed anyone and yet others have signed some.

When are we going to accept that with MON he will do his transfer dealings the same every year/ We may ocasionally get one or two in early but the vast majority of any signings will be from mid August onwards.

So, I'll wait.
