its hardly a rant, most resigned comment. anyone want to bet he'll sign someone from europe? or in the next week?  thought not....

Why would he? Johnny Foreigner, coming over here, earning shedloads with his feet up for two months, fucking Daily Mail would have a field day with that.

Even if he did you'd find something wrong with whoever it was.

But Greg there's 10 weeks before the season starts-don't panic yet, let's enjoy the world cup and I'm sure we get our deals done when the players we want become available at the right price.

Yep, plenty of time for us to get players in. Other clubs can do what they like.

I thought, maybe, with the World Cup upon us, people might have more interesting things on their minds, but no..

What on earth has the world cup got do with a Villa transfer thread?

Wait until someone sees a player they've never heard of before do well in one of the games and then ask that question!

Classic football commentator use of the word invariably, when in fact there is lots of variation in the prices we pay for players and the players real worth.

maybe but i wouldn't say we've got any bargains would you. even players like Milner and young who are worth more than we paid were pretty much bought at thier value at the time. if waiting till the last moment had some financial advantage to us i could understand it more

Well the fact that there has been a bid of double(ish) what we paid for Milner 2 years after buying him shows he was got a the right price, doesn't it?  Collins was a bargain, so was Dunne depsite his age.  You love going on about Luke Young, he was at a very reasonable price.  We got Carew for 1 Milan Baros, great deal.

How about not paying two months worth of wages. For a top player that's the best part of £400,000 saved.

So buying two players for £20m and two years later they are worth £50m isn't getting a bargain?

The point is what he does in the remaining two or three years of his contract.

Sits on the bench?

That's why I have serious doubts about him. He could probably give us one good season (if he loses a bit of weight) but after that, I think we'd be looking to bring in somebody better. Spurs are not getting rid of him because they have too many strikers...

That's eaxctly what they're doing. Redknapp said it himself last season, that 4 was too many and he had to get rid of one.

Quote
Redknapp said it was difficult to tell whether his team's attacking strength had been improved by the departure of Keane and the arrival of Eidur Gudjohnsen but he felt he had at least one striker too many once it became clear that Roman Pavlyuchenko was staying.

"Pavlyuchenko wouldn't have gone to Birmingham or Stoke but Robbie was desperate to go and play for Celtic," he said. "It solved a problem for me as well
."

Using your rule book Chris, he said nothing of the sort.
Whatever, I still have major reservations on signing Keane.

I saw him say it in an interview, this was all I could find online as I couldn't be arsed trawling the net.
