Keane & Rodallega together would be good signings.

I'd be happy to see both Carew & Heskey leave if we were to bring both these in.

Would like to see a quartet of  Keane, Gabby, Rodallega and JC to call upon, but I have a feeling you're right PTV.

Would be a very decent four to pick from wouldn't it? Send the Fonz out on loan for six months and then see where we are (and whether its worth offering Carew a contract extension).

For the forwards

Midfield you've probably got a huge selection from:

Ireland
Jenas

Or someone from either (a) one of the relegated sides or (b) one of the sides who narrowly avoided the drop.

I'll plump for Sean Davis at Bolton.

Bendtner from Arsenal might also be worth a flutter if the Gooners sign some decent forwards this summer.

Not having a go at you Kevin, but god, this makes me sad.
If this list of the type of players we are going to be linked with then we may as well not bother.
Talk about taking any old shit from other teams......sadly though I think this is closer to the mark than not.

I am predicting those are the targets we will be looking around. Do you think it'll be different?

Well, if your prediction is players from the PL, then that's hardly earth-shattering news.  And for me I'm quite happy to be bringing players in from our own league, although not exclusively.  Will we be surprised?  I'd ask at this time last year who saw James Collins or Stephen Warnock signing for us?

Personally, I think Keane WILL happen, but other than that I don't know who we will sign.

Hold on - you've just mentioned 8 players and then thrown in about 6 other teams.  Giving yourself a pretty wide scope aren't you?

I think Keane is likely and Ireland a possibility.

I just find it unusual that some posters tell us they can predict what he'll do, but then edge their bets by throwning a wide net around things.  Why not actually name the ACTUAL players you expect us to sign, if it's so obvious?

This summer would be the ideal opportunity to try something different and step out of his comfort zone.

I hope he does.

I know the quotes (or converstation reported) from ISM were somewhat deflating, and pretty much in keeping with what we've by and large done since 2006.

But I draw comfort from the thought that we had scouted the likes of Bosingwa and Mandanda and had a confirmed interest in both before they became well known.

Hopefully if we're faced with a similar situation again we'll actually follow through on the deal.

I've no idea what this Portugese player Everton have signed is like, but I can't imagine us deviating from the predictable targets.

It is all rather predictable.  I'd like us to be scouring both the domestic and foreign markets for the best players at the best value, but does anyone think we are?

Really? How come you've never mentioned it before?

I know, it's amazing.

Almost as amazing as being labelled repetitive by someone who spends eight hours a day, every day having the same argument over and over again.

Except that just isn't true. An hour or two a day in total would be more accurate. I'd be happier if that time wasn't spent going over all ground but it is difficult when seemingly every thread is turned into a critique of the manager.

Not really John, no.

How many teams are there across the world? How many players?

And yet I can say with a fair degree of certainty/ resignation that whoever we sign will be from the above pool of talent.

You, MON and a few others might see it as a pretty wide and vast selection though. Fair enough.

Not nearly as predictable as posters of your ilk making this sort of comment.

When I saw on SSN last night that Everton had signed a 2nd division Portugese striker, I wondered to myself how many pages of posts there would be bemoaning MON lack of foreign transfers.

I thought, maybe, with the World Cup upon us, people might have more interesting things on their minds, but no. Now David Moyes signing a striker from the 2nd tier of Portugese football is a stick to beat MON with.

Hmmm. This time last year I had Bentley, Distin and Doyle as my likely signings. Didn't get any of them. Downing, Delph, Warnock, Collins and Dunne all took me by no surprise. The shortlist of centre-backs we (and the media) were all talking about included Distin, Upson, Hangeland, Huth... look who we seemed.

Yes, MON fishes from the same pond (or paddling pool) most of the time but I wouldn't say our signings are predictable (save for Petrov and Heskey.... we all knew he'd sign, one day, Emile Heskey :( ). A lot of them we haven't been linked with previously and we've barely known anything about the deal until it's been done.

It is an artificial argument though. It maters not on iota where they signe from all that matters is what they do for us. Criticise signings if you don't like what they do when they're playing for us but having a go on the basis of what you think a rumoured signing might contribute seems pretty futile to me.

I see David Moyes has gone very quietly about his business as usual. He's just signed a Portuguese striker without anyone seeming to notice. It will be interesting to see how Silva gets on.

£600k on a 20 year old striker from the second division who's played a handful of games; file under 'One for the Future (maybe)'. It will be interesting to see if he gets on the pitch next season. Nothing wrong with investing for the future but I don't imagine he'll be challenging for the Golden Boot any time soon.

Camparatively wide to all the players in all the clubs in all the leagues around the world?  No, maybe not.

But for saying that the manager is so predictable you know what he's going to do?  Yes, I think it is pretty wide.

And I'll ask again; if you know then throw a name out there?  I've already done it by saying I think we'll sign Keane.

If you do what you've always done you'll get what you've always got.

Dunne, Collins, Warnock (who I actually rate) were pretty underwhelming signings last summer, lets face it. "Judge them at the end of the season," and so on.

They turned out to be solid, dependable players. But then we knew that already, didn't we?

They ultimately didn't help us improve our league position from the previous season, decent though they were.

The summer previous we spent £45 million largely on solid, dependable homebased PL players and consolidated 6th position. I'm not knocking the consistency and aptitude required for managing that. But do we continue to set that as the target, marginally better than the previous season but no marked improvement in league placing?

Or do we step out of the bunker?

OK, just so I've got this straight:

Are you actually trying to argue that MON's signings to date haven't been predictable? Really?

I can think of maybe one (Carew) which was pretty much out of the blue and another (Harewood) where I couldn't believe it at the time. Still don't, in fact.

But for the rest there was no great mystery to them.

The point is what he does in the remaining two or three years of his contract.

Sits on the bench?

That's why I have serious doubts about him. He could probably give us one good season (if he loses a bit of weight) but after that, I think we'd be looking to bring in somebody better. Spurs are not getting rid of him because they have too many strikers...

That's eaxctly what they're doing. Redknapp said it himself last season, that 4 was too many and he had to get rid of one.

Quote
Redknapp said it was difficult to tell whether his team's attacking strength had been improved by the departure of Keane and the arrival of Eidur Gudjohnsen but he felt he had at least one striker too many once it became clear that Roman Pavlyuchenko was staying.

"Pavlyuchenko wouldn't have gone to Birmingham or Stoke but Robbie was desperate to go and play for Celtic," he said. "It solved a problem for me as well
."

Using your rule book Chris, he said nothing of the sort.
Whatever, I still have major reservations on signing Keane.
