Though Wigan have had no firm offers yet, Whelan said: 'I would say £15million for Rodallega isn't outrageous.

'He is a player we do not want to sell and I would love it if he started next season with us, but equally sometimes we have to sell a player like this, we have no choice

Roughly translated as "Please don't bid for him, please don't bid for him. Oh go on then."

Not for the first time, Whelan comes across as very much the market trader.

Greg , the spurs fell out with keane over the way he went to Liverpool-he was more unpopular than Barry was here at the time-ask. Them what robbie keanes given them and his record and they would grudgingly admit he's still a class act!

They gave Defoe , crouch, and pav so their strikeforce is massively better than ours and they can afford to part with him.

Keane on his own wouldn't be enough.

Rodallega on his own wouldn't be enough.

But the two together might be very useful. They'd certainly improve our options and -combined with our current forwards- would give us a bit of everything.

They should also be well within our budget. Keane at say no more than £9 million and if Whelan is saying £15 mill they'd probably take closer to £10-12 million. Whelan also seems to rate Heskey and likes to get involved in transfer selection, so hopefully we could kill two birds with one stone; ditch Ivanhoe>get a decent upgrade and knock some money off the fee.

Obliviously if Arsenal do go in for Rodallega our chances of landing him would be somewhere between slim and none. But the talk is that their  board there are going to have a dart at it this year and are looking to make significant funds available to Wenger for a change. Rodallega might be OK for us but they already have Van Persie, Eduardo, Vela and co on their books. You'd think if they were going to purchase someone it would be an upgrade on what they already possess.

I see David Moyes has gone very quietly about his business as usual. He's just signed a Portuguese striker without anyone seeming to notice. It will be interesting to see how Silva gets on.

Keane & Rodallega together would be good signings.

I'd be happy to see both Carew & Heskey leave if we were to bring both these in.

At least Moyes has some appreciation of players from foreign shores, not dismissing the idea like our incumbent.

I've no idea what this Portugese player Everton have signed is like, but I can't imagine us deviating from the predictable targets.

It is all rather predictable.  I'd like us to be scouring both the domestic and foreign markets for the best players at the best value, but does anyone think we are?

Would like to see a quartet of  Keane, Gabby, Rodallega and JC to call upon, but I have a feeling you're right PTV.

Carew with his longterm back condition isn't one for the future, and you're not  realistically going to get anywhere near 38 league games + cup matches from him now. But when on form he is still virtually unstoppable.

He's not the archetypal targetman by any means despite his height. He has a surprising turn of pace for one thing. We've probably spent far too much time whacking the ball upto him a la Kevin Davies and Niall Quinn and not exploiting what he's best at. He can ghost into the area and create havoc, but we use him as a battering ram.

That said, he is decent in the air and if we had him plus the other three he'd always be a good option. Either from the bench or against teams who are weaker to the high ball.

That sounds dangerously like rotation though, so we can forget those leftfield ideas.

The point is what he does in the remaining two or three years of his contract.

Sits on the bench?

That's why I have serious doubts about him. He could probably give us one good season (if he loses a bit of weight) but after that, I think we'd be looking to bring in somebody better. Spurs are not getting rid of him because they have too many strikers...

That's eaxctly what they're doing. Redknapp said it himself last season, that 4 was too many and he had to get rid of one.

Quote
Redknapp said it was difficult to tell whether his team's attacking strength had been improved by the departure of Keane and the arrival of Eidur Gudjohnsen but he felt he had at least one striker too many once it became clear that Roman Pavlyuchenko was staying.

"Pavlyuchenko wouldn't have gone to Birmingham or Stoke but Robbie was desperate to go and play for Celtic," he said. "It solved a problem for me as well
."

Yes.

For all we know, every signing we've made as come down to say Dunne vs. Ali Bongo, and maybe O'Neill was desperate for Ali Bongo but they couldn't get the deal done and on balance Dunne was the best deal to do.

It's hypothetical I know, but I'd guess it's more likely than him categorically ruling out continental signings.

That word again.  Go on then - predict them?  And no "Well, it'll be someone like Ciole or Zamora" - tell me who we WILL sign if it's so predictable!!

Cole
Zamora
Keane
Doyle

For the forwards

Midfield you've probably got a huge selection from:

Ireland
Jenas

Or someone from either (a) one of the relegated sides or (b) one of the sides who narrowly avoided the drop.

I'll plump for Sean Davis at Bolton.

Bendtner from Arsenal might also be worth a flutter if the Gooners sign some decent forwards this summer.

I know, it's amazing.

Almost as amazing as being labelled repetitive by someone who spends eight hours a day, every day having the same argument over and over again.

No.

I am predicting those are the targets we will be looking around. Do you think it'll be different?
