MArtin Petrov, Sylvinho and Benjani released by Man City....SSN

To be fair, the former and latter on frees wouldn't be too shabby as squad players. Benjani is far better than Heskey any road.

Not that I'd reall want any of them in truth though. We need first 11 standard players in, not squad fillers.

Martin petrov on a free would be a decent signing, gives us a better option on the bench and might even displace downing-nothing to lose on him as he's been given a free.

Agreed, I think those two could do a job. Petrov is a very good player if you can keep him fit but I suppose that is the key, although age is against him he is a better player than Downing.

But he only plays on the left and with AY, he would only be a rarely used squad player.

We need to get out of this mentality of considering older squad players when we should be using the squad to bring in young players, either by transfer or through the youth set up.

We are not able to compete in the market for top experienced players so have to gamble on developing young talent and hope it all comes together in a couple of years.

No to all 3 of the players City are releasing.

If people here are moaning about Doyle and Keane then Petrov ,Benjani etc are far worse players.

Agree to a degree but petrov and benjani are better than other squad players heskey and sidwell and are on a free, we could flog heskey and sidwell and have more in the pot to buy the 2 quality signings we need!

Martin Petrov would be a good signing...

... for Newcastle

He always gives me the impression that he plays for himself not the team. Scores some great goals but does zero tracking back and sulks if things aren't going his way.

We already have two wingers who are best on the left, so if we buy another one it needs to be a rightsided player, so no to Petrov for me.

Petrov gives us an option , downing not consistent and ash has been knackered coz we lack options to rest him, petrov can play a more infield role too rather than being an out an out winger-we need several
options and have nothing to lose on this one.

If we are replacing Sidwell then I want it to be with a better central midfield player. Not a 31 year old winger who has hardly played for 2 years.

Would they?  Or would he get similar game time to Delfouneso in being in the cup/Europa sides and the odd league cameo?

Beckham is never a winger, he's a right sided midfield player.

I'd agree with this, and also believe that was the key to the balance of that side.

Beckham crossing from deeper, with Neville overlapping to create the space and Giggs getting further forward, crossing from the byline.

I also think David Bentley with his head screwed on could give us the same balance.

Not with that fucking donkey Cuellar at right back

As this is approx. your 5463rd repetition of this comment in various guises, could you explain how Cuellar managed to be ranked 3rd highest defender in the Premier League Opta Stats this season behind Evra and Dunne and 14th highest player overall?
