1 in 4 when Wolves main tactic is to attack the 18 yard line is a minor miracle. They only scored 13 at home all season.

The question is would Doyle or Fletcher offer us significantly more than Delfouneso next season? I don't think they would. I think Nathan would probably need some time to gel with the squad as a regular, but he would undoubtedly manage 1 in 4, and I'm not convinced that - even playing for a team who don't "attack the 18 yard line" - either Doyle or Fletcher can manage better than that.

No doubt Doyle would score more than Heskey, but that could be said of a lot of players.

So, simply being "better than Heskey" is not in itself a recommendation.

Doyle would be "better than Heskey" but of all the players about whom that could be said is Doyle the best we could possibly get?  I hope not.

Of course, if we're limiting ourselves to players who have played in England or Scotland then the field narrows considerably.

There's no if Hilts.
It's British based players or nothing.

Delfouneso might offer us more instinct and something more direct, but Doyle would bring us more intelligence to the front line.

Gabby needs to improve his movement, not sure who his ideal partner would be.

When Richard Dunne was signed and there were alot of people not too impressed I posted that for the Republic of Ireland he generally does his job well and more often than not gets the nod for man of the match .
The other cadidate is usually Kevin Doyle. He had a great game v Paraguay a few weeks ago, made 1 and scored 1. Robbie Keane was as he often is, incredibly frustrating to watch. I would probably crack up watching him playing for us every week.
9 mill is probably only 1 or 2 mill over the odds for Doyle but I'd be happy enough if we signed him as he works his bollocks off and has an eye for goal.

Yet another target for Spurs is Udinese's 19-year-old Ghana international centre-back Jonathan Mensah but they face competition for him from Aston Villa. (Sunday Mirror)

And here was me thinking we didn't have enough Centre Backs.

One player who could be heading for the exit at White Hart Lane is Jermaine Jenas, with Stoke ready to make a £7m offer. (Sunday Mirror)

I hope that is true.

Manchester City will make a final take-it-or-leave-it bid of £25m for Aston Villa midfielder James Milner. (Sunday Mirror)

I'll leave it then thanks.

I'd go for Keane and Ireland as well, but why wait for the Milner money? Try and get them now.

I get the feeling of history repeating itself.  Someone comes in with bid for one of our best players.  We reject,  holding out for more.  Higher bid comes in, we reject unless our valuation of £30m is met.  All we need now is for MON to make Milner captain and then to see him leave for half the money next summer - probably to a different team as Mercenary City will have hoovered up all the other quality midfielders on the market by then.

Be interesting to see whether they come in with a higher bid or cash + players offer.  All this of course assuming Milner wants to risk being marginalised at a club with more money - I don't think he's in the Barry mould of moving for money per se.

I still think Manu will come in with a late bid - Scholes is in his last season, Carrick is shit, and Hargreaves is permanently injured.

Or maybe (*dons claret and blue specs*) he likes Villa so much he'll put pen to paper on a long term deal as our new club captain.

Doyle and Keane up front.

That's much better than Heskey/Carew and Gabby isn't it?

Yet again we're being linked with players that will keep us standing still and not moving forward.

To be honest I don't think it is better.

i think keane and doyle in and carew and heskey out would see our forward options much improved, carew on his day is a class player but his day is all too rare and keane could play off doyle or gabby and would also be great to learn from for gabby and fonz.

doyle in our team would score goals with the service from out wide , and hes got a great touch and would link up well with either striker.

I love the way people assume that in buying a old striker, he's going to bring his coaching masterclass with him to pass on to our young hope.

Is he bollocks, he'll all he can to keep the little shit on the bench.

If Robbie Keane is all there is out there, then we're better off keeping hold of our money until we can buy better.
