He’s more prolific than Heskey, therefore you are wrong.

who's not more prolific than Heskey? its the first team we need to improve not the reserves, then the current first team become the reserves and problem solved

You said he’s not more prolific than what we’ve already got. You were wrong.

If Doyle had have played the same number of games for us as Heskey did, he’d have scored more goals in that time. That opens up the possibility for us having more points and a higher league placing.

That would be an improvement

But what about all those goals that Heskey creates for other players ?

Oh wait..... that only works when he plays with Rooney

That link to Doyle for £9 million, good grief. No.

What he said....£9 million is madness for him...would it improve us? No, can't see it myself...probably tabloid laziness anyway

It better be tabloid laziness. If we spent £9 million on Doyle, I think it would be insane.

isn't that the going rate if you refuse to buy from anywhere but the premiership? probably about 4 other gettable strikers by that criteria, Doyle, Keane, erm.......

Can I agree with Paulie, something needs to be done about this thread. It used to be the first place I came for transfer news and rumours, now it is the last place. Sick and tired of petty, self-indulgent, microscopic, point-scoring on here....

In fairness to Paulie, I think his tongue in cheek response was a reaction to this:

Quote from: "Percy"

Just popped in to see if there was any Villa-related news, only to find the same people moaning about the same things over and over again ad nauseum. Honestly, if I was as pessimistic and bereft of hope as some of you I don't think I'd bother any more.

But thanks anyway.

As Hilts says, a transfer thread seems a pretty decent place to discuss remarks from a club official about our buying policy.

Know what you mean (apart from the Brit part).
Would have been happy with Doyle back in 2008, but not now.

Unless we were getting rid of both Heskey and Carew this summer, and bringing in two new forwards. Doyle might be OK in those circumstances, but we need one genuinely top class striker. That much should be obvious at this stage.

I'd take Doyle for £9m without 2nd thought if we didn't already have Heskey and Carew.
If we sold Heskey for £2m then it would be an update that would cost £7m.

We need a different king of striker. We need someone more skilled. Someone who knows where to find the goals or maybe even create goals on his own.

Doyle at £9m is a good deal.Him, Fonz,Gabby, and a n other, will give us better options, and more mobility up front.

Would'nt be disappointed tbh.Would only be disappointed if he is our only signing, but thats not MONs doing.
