Its also contradictory, because it says, ISM was more interested in the U21 tournament earlier in the year.

Take with a pinch of salt, methinks, if the supposed interest in VDV and Sneijder was true, which apparently it was, then again it contradicts it.

Unless of course we are after Ronaldo.

The irony is great though. Storey-Moore doesn't think there are any unknown gems at the world cup and he is probably right. For example someone on here was beating the drum for Sami Khedira as a defensive midfield player now he is being hyped as the man to replace Michael Ballack and as such every club are after him.

However, I'm sure that there are no unknown gems in the premiership at the moment because everyone has heard of them! I think we are in for a disappointing transfer window.

Oh come on. I am sure MON's preference is for Premier League experience, but if the right player comes along who can't cut the mustard in England then I am sure he won't say no.

Of course, the very elite can adjust, but there are so many players from lesser leagues tahat can't.

Carew had no Premier League experience, but bags of top flight european experience, and he signed him.

Honestly, don't get so upset by a throw away line by a scout.

I think Martin would happily signed an established, top quality European player, if he was sure he'd do the business. Snjeider or VDV for example. But...players like that wouldn't come here.

What I don't think Mart would do is take a punt on a lesser known Euro player, maybe someone excelling at a nothing club.

That may or may not be a good thing. If our scouts aren't good enough to find the sort of gems Arsene can (but has it helped him much?) then so be it.
We shop at home I guess.

In fairness to greg here, it is a little alarming that we only look at players with premier league experience. Surely you can see that's a touch short sighted?
