Theo Walcott may be twice the player that Bennyayoun is, but he is also made of soggy cardboard and glass.  I think there are better ways to spend 15-20 million as, dont kid yourself, this is what Wenger will demand

Personally I really wouldnt want Wallcott, I think he is a one trick pony. Can't cross bad decision making and no real skill, He struggles to go around people which is why he isnt going to South Africa..

Just a personal opinion

I know what you're saying Phil, but the reason his crossing is poor is because he's not really a winger. He's a striker, it's where he started. He's pacy more than skilful, which is why he goes past people rather than round them.

I wouldn't be against him as a striker but I have a feeling he would end up as a winger

I was thinking that same thing as i was typing my post actually. He probably would which is a shame.

Agreed. And if you're talking natural footballing ability, Benayoun has more of a brain, more experience, more guile, far better technique, than Walcott.

To be honest I don't rate Theo right now, he's just all pace. He's a decent finisher when he's through the middle, but he hardly plays there.

Saying that, we should be looking at better than Yossi, or at least a younger version. He'd be a brilliant player to have on our bench, but would he trade the Anfield bench for ours? No.

What did you hear, Percy?

I ask not in a confrontational manner, just interested in what is meant to have gone on.

Me too - as I said , it's what was reported (I can''t remember where but I do remember reading it) and it would be interesting to know hte other versions.

Nothing explosive - just that NRC wasn't following instructions in a training game and MON got a bit wound up. Can't even recall the source now so I have no comment to make on the reliability.

I'd go for Walcott, at the right price. He's a good player but has suffered from going to Arsenal. He hasn't played enough and must be low on confidence. We'd have to keep him injury free too of course!

Not sure on Walcott.

Benayoun is a certain yes but appears Chelsea have targeted him as Joe Cole's replacement so one to tick off.

As we've seen with the James Milner links over the summer, things can soon change in football. Or perhaps more accurately (as he hasn't actually moved yet), scenarios open up that would be unthinkable just a few short months ago.

Currently we have Ashley Young and Downing for the wide slots. I still think we could have done a lot worse than take Victor Moses off Palace's hands last season.

Ledley at Cardiff should also be one we seriously look at, particularly on a free. Both are young, are more realistic than the likes of Walcott et al, would see us as a step up and could increase in value substantially over the next few years.

So we might not have a specific gap for them in the first team yet (though with the amount of games we could face incl the Europa League they could still see a fair bit of game time). That picture could quite easily change in 6/12/18 months, by which time they'd be assimilated enough to -in theory- make the step-up to the first team.

Those should be the type of players we pay more attention to, young players capable of making the transition. They won't all come off.  Law of averages, and all that.  But if just a few do it's worth it.

Just for a brief second, allow yourself to dream that "someone" is us.  Yep, that was a happy second.

I wouldn't touch Walcott, all he has is pace and when that goes eventually he won't have a whole lot else. We don't need that kind of player anyway, we need to bring in something we don't have!

That was all Gabby had a few years back, but he worked at his game and improves season on season. I dont think Walcott has the attitude to do that.
