good attacking + good defending = Stephen Warnock

and Luke Young.

Using your criteria Cuellar is just "acceptable", although when faced with a pacey winger, his defending shifts down to "poor".  As well as that, his throw in taking is another massive weakness.

The problem with the approach of playing defensive full backs and 'letting the wingers get on with it' is that it decreases the wingers' options significantly. Having an overlapping full back makes defenders cover them, creating more space and options for the winger. Similarly, because we spread a midfield four so wide, and neither forward is likely to come short and create a diversion, our wingers are very frequently faced with players doubling up on them.

In the modern game, it is normally the full backs who get the most time on the ball. Having one full back who can't pass the ball is a significant disadvantage. I'm all for defenders who can defend, but like others I always thought Luke could

Most Coventry and Blackburn fans reckon warnock is much better in midfield , I would be sorry to see luke go, cuellar is not too bad defending but his passing is awful and many attacks broke down once he got the ball, I think a right back is a must this summer.

Hopefully mon will get his deals done before the season starts rather than dithering about until the last day again!

The Blackburn fan I know said Warnock is not very good in midfield and his best position is left back.

Warnock has looked very good when I've seen him play left midfield and hes played there quite often.

What the fuck have Coventry fans opinions got to do with anything?

I see Moyes has done it again, grabbed a no risk bargain in Beckford.

I have horrible feeling we will spend 10 million on a player who doesn't do as good as Beckford.

With Delph being injured I'd snap up joe Ledley on a free, can't be worse than Sidwell.

Maybe MON just doesnt rate Beckford?
he is 26 and has plied his trade in the lower leagues, its not like he is a youngster like Delph etc.
We are on about getting in players who can help us improve and push for top 4 and other honours. With due respect, at his age, i dont think Beckford is the sort of player who can help us get to the next level.
I would imagine the Fonz will get more game time next season, and will have a better goals to game ration then Beckford.

You missed my point, which was let's hope martin doesn't go and spend 10 million on a player who turns out to be less effective than Beckfors is for Everton next season.

Moyes has a history of making lower league players fit into his side.

And let's face it Everton are on par with Villa.

I bet beckford gets more goals than any Villa player next season, which pisses me off.

Are you having a laugh? He's going to be third choice in a 4-5-1 system. I bet he doesn't score 5 goals in the league. Still, he's a decent signing, if he flops they can move him on for a couple of million and he'll give them another dimension.

He's a poor mans Gabby though. We don't need him.

If we want Clyne then we should bid now, we'll be able to get him for about £1million.

Not a chance.
He won't score more than Either Gabby, Carew or A N Other striker we might sign.

I really don't think he'll cut it in the Premier.

I'll bet you that Gabby and Carews league games to goals ratio will be better than Beckfords. £10?

Reminds me, someone had a £10 bet with me last Summer that we'd finish ahead of Spurs, anyone want to own up?
