If he were their most important striker then no, he probably wouldn't have been sent out on loan. But if that incident hadn't happened then he probably would have stayed.

It has to be said that neither reflects well on Keane.

On the one hand, he's no longer good enough that Redknapp is prepared to overlook his behaviour and keep him on.

And on the other hand, Keane's behaviour was sufficiently poor that the incident happened in the first place.

He may not have been considered one of their best strikers, but we are talking about comparing him to the likes of Crouch, Defoe, Gudjohnson and Pavlachenko.
Here he would only have to be better than the likes of Emile to make an impact.
Spurs have / had arguably the best attacking force in teh premiership, so it's no shame to take one of their rejects.
I'm sure many on here would take Berbatov

I agree completely. I have no desire at all to see Keane playing for us.

I'd have gladly taken him 5 years ago but not now - I really do hope that this is a paper nonsense. Anything over £5m and i'd be very underwhelmed.

If keane had the chances gabby missed last season we would have been in the champions league!

Robbie keane is a much better striker than anything we have at the club and I would love to see him in a villa shirt- I hope all the critics now remember their words - top class player who would make a huge difference to our team!

If we had Keane and Gabby up front it might bring more from Gabby as he is a better target man than he is over the top runner. Keane is the better of the option out there, but over 8 million and I would be gutted as it would be a huge waste of money.

A look on Spurs message boards shows they're hardly heartbroken by the idea of him leaving unless I've misunderstood them offering to drive him to his new home.

I've been on a couple of Spurs forums and there are indeed quite a few posters that have offered to chauffeur Keane to his next club. But not if his choice is Villa Park - because bizarrely they see us a rivals for a spot in the top four.

Deluded Spurs fans eh?

Keane is alright. I can imagine better signings without too much trouble and its not very imaginative but he would kind of make sense. I could see him as having the same kind of impact Dean Saunders gave us in a similar role.

I'm not really that fussed on why Droopy let him go. He let Bent go who outscored all his strikers.

So I hope for something more exciting but if its Keane, well, he may find his home here at last and do well. And he would definitely improve us if he replaced Heskey, say.

That's true but it says more about Heskey than it does about Keane.  It could also be said that a lot of other players would improve us if they replaced Heskey, better players than Keane.

We should be looking to sign the best players we can possibly get and I don't believe Keane falls into that category.  Is he really the only possible option in his position?

Dunno about that Maz.

Deano was one of those few signings we've made over the years that made other clubs sit up and take notice. He'd gone for a British transfer record less than a year previous and moved to us for a figure not a million miles off that.

He was the missing piece in the jigsaw, turning a good side into championship contenders and had not long turned 28. Keane will be 30 by the time the next campaign gets underway.

I'd say his signing will be closer to the Dublin/ Merson bracket, that is a player with decent Prem experience who has probably already peaked. We might still be able to get a few decent years out of him though, and if he gets even close to replicating what Merse gave us (different type of players, I know) then it will be a good deal. I'd still want to see better, younger players signed to supplement that.

A 29 year old striker who has just scored his 43rd international goal, sounds alright to me, if he was Colombian people might be a bit keener.

I don't think it's anything to do with the fact that he's Irish.

If he was 26, or if he hadn't just been farmed out to a weak league, then people might be a bit keener.

For all the speculation as to why Waxface sent him to Celtic, he had him at Spurs for pretty much a full season (re-signed from Liverpool Jan 09 and loaned out Jan 10) and played him 29 times in the league in that time.  I think 'arry didn't fancy him and it wasn't his idea to bring him back, but he was too cute to not use a good player when he had him.

Keane is a decent option for us both because of his ability and the type of link striker he is.  He may not be anyone's top choice, but he would be a step forward for us and help the side.

Well hopefully next year we will play 4-5-1, and Keane would be a good purchase to play in that system. For me he would link better with Gabby than Carew or Heskey. Not at the top of his game, but a proven quality at Prem level. If we paid approx £8m for him, would'nt be a bad buy.If we have a bit more money, which i'm not sure we have, then maybe Zarate.
