You do argue some stupid shit at times, the whole world seems to accept that Keane as captain took the rap for organising that party but because it doesn't suit the point your trying to make you won't believe it.

Chris do you honestly believe that if it had been Michael Dawson or Jermaine Defoe or Aaron Lennon who had organised the party that Redknapp would have packed them off to Celtic on loan?

Of course he wouldn't.  The only reason he took that action with Keane is that he believed Keane wouldn't be missed.  And he was right.

What I believe is that if the Dublin affair hadn't happened, Keane would not have been loaned out. There seems little doubt that it caused a breakdown in their relationship. It takes a lot for a club to decide to get rid of their captain in the middle of the season.

Chris, you can tart up Keane as much as you want.
Redknapp realises he is past his best and wants rid.

We'll be only to glad to pay over the odds for him, with zero re-sale value.

The Tottenham manager insisted on Dec 11 that he would not allow his team to hold a Christmas party, but it has now emerged that the majority of his first team squad had been clubbing late into the night in Dublin just three days earlier.

The embarrassment for the club was made worse by Spurs’ subsequent 1-0 defeat against Wolves at White Hart Lane and Redknapp admitted he was “shocked” to learn of the secret.

“It will be dealt with, I promise you,” he said. “I wouldn’t like to say what I’m going to do but it will be dealt with and then we will move on.

“They’ve not been fighting or anything like that. You could go back over some of parties that other clubs have had over the years and tell a million stories.

“I haven’t had any negative reports about what went on but they didn’t ask my permission so they have to take the consequences, which they will do.”

Redknapp refused to elaborate on the punishments his players could face, but captain Robbie Keane is believed to have organised the trip to his homeland and could be first in the firing line.

Coming shortly after Stoke manager Tony Pulis fell out with James Beattie over a Christmas party, Redknapp is surprised footballers seem so keen to party during a busy fixture schedule.

He added: “If you’re a footballer you can’t do it because there is somebody there waiting to take pictures of you. Everybody is waiting to catch you out.

“They have to understand that. They get very, very well paid and they can’t do it. You can’t leave yourself open because everybody now has a camera and everybody is waiting to find out where you are.

“I will talk to them on Monday about it and we’ll sort it out. I don’t sympathise with them, that’s part of the territory. It’s what you get.

“I’m a football manager. I wouldn’t go out, get drunk and start falling around or pulling some old slag tomorrow night. I wouldn’t do that, I’m not that stupid.”

Redknapp takes his side to Blackburn on Saturday and will continue with the little and large strike force of Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch, who took Manchester City apart in Wednesday night’s 3-0 win.

Tottenham players are reportedly organised a Christmas party against manager Harry Redknapp's wishes.

The Sun says Spurs senior players have heaped shame on the club by organising a secret Christmas party in Dublin behind the back of Redknapp.

SIXTEEN first-team stars coughed up £2,000 each to party organiser Robbie Keane for the wild night out after Redknapp had allowed them to go on what he believed was a golf trip.

But the shamed players abused that privilege, with six of them even hiring a private jet to fly there and back.

They arrived in Dublin last Tuesday and spent the night partying in a bar and a nightclub before flying back the following day.

Redknapp, however, said last night the players had told him they were going to Dublin for a golf trip.

He said: "Wednesday was their day off and Robbie told me they were going to Ireland to play golf. I had no problem with that.

"However, it is widely known that I do not approve of Christmas parties and I've always made it clear players should only drink in moderation.

"Whatever happened in Ireland, I do not accept it had any effect on the result against Wolves.

"The squad trained brilliantly on Thursday and Friday and there were other reasons why we lost that match.

"On Wednesday this week, when we beat Man City 3-0, you could see the true character and talent in this team."

No denial from manager or player either to the story that was in every single newspaper and on every TV sports report that it was Keane who organised the trip. The only one doubting it is you.

My position on Keane has been consistent (I know that's a dirty word to you) that he is the type of player we need. If anyone can come up with one of the same style who is a better option that great but so far I haven't seen anyone mentioned.[/i]

I may have missed it, but suprised no-one has mentioned our link with someone called Senijad Ibricic, a midfielder from Bosnia playing for Hadjuk Split.
Player of the year in Croatia last year, scoring 17 in 29.
Its not online but in the paper version of NOTW today.

Keane is the man! No resale value, I admit, but if he scores 15 goals a season for the next four years, itill be worth it and there is nothing to suggest he won't.

He's a natural goalscorer, just like Kevin Phillips but better. How old is Kevin Phillips, how many did he score last season? Certainly more than Heskey and he hardly played!!

Keane will be our first natural goalscorer since Dwight Yorke. Sign for anything under 10 million.

Not sure on the natural goalscorer bit.

He's never had even one fantastic season goal-wise, but plenty of decent ones.

He has helped to get the best out of his strike partners in years gone by though, so he might have an impact on Gabby getting close to 20 goals a season -whilst still chipping in wth his fair share.

All to often in recent years we've had forwards up top going in separate directions, just doing their own thing. A bit of organisation up there, something resembling a partnership could be just what we need.

Agree. First choice for me is Keane. But only for a realistic price. He is 29 years old. Before a year his value was 12m, so I see 8-10m as a fair price.
Dont forget his huge wages.
If they want 18m for Keane then I would go for Rodallega(10m). He may not have the experience but he is a fantastic performer, gets the crowd going, he is young and had a very solid debut season.

Quite, but the point is they did let him go.  And the only reason they would have done that is if they thought it wouldn't disadvantage the club to do so.

Which gives an indication of how they valued Keane as a player.

Keane is a natural goalscorer. He's scored everywhere he's been.

Can't believe how many people are complaining about no resale value. Ok, we will lose on him, but we may lose about 6 million on someone like Curtis Davies. The difference being, Keane might make a meaningful impact whilst he's here.

How much was merson when he signed, wasn't it something like six million and that was years ago before the mega money rolled in. Keane is the one. Yes, we should have got him years ago, but he's still right for now. It's about a blend of what will enhance the squad now and what will be good for the future.
We buy a player like Delph for the future and buy a player like Keane for now. What's the problem with that?

Greg, am I correct in thinking that had Villa cancelled their Christmas party, Carew then organised a big piss-up in London and a couple of weeks later is farmed out on loan by O'Neill - would you be insisting that the two events were completely unrelated?

I think I can probably guess the answer. If he were their most important striker then no, he probably wouldn't have been sent out on loan. But if that incident hadn't happened then he probably would have stayed.

Because finances are ever more important in the game now, we can't expect Randy to throw £15m at a player with no resale value, it's unsustainable to make signings like that.

If Keane was considered to be one of their best strikers, he wouldn't have been given the cold shoulder by Redknapp, The Dublin caper conveniently solved his too many strikers conundrum.
