well he's nearer two years than three, he'll be 30 before he'd kick a ball for us. and this fell out with redknapp stuff...

It was in all the papers Greg, didn't you make a note in your scrapbook?

Organised a Christmas party after being told he couldn't, was sent out on loan to Celtic a couple of weeks later...

oh right. you now take paper rumours seriously? or just the ones that suit you. redknapp and Keane or the club haven't said owt like that. he was shipped out because he wasn't expected to get in the side. simple.

Quote
Redknapp repeatedly refused to answer questions about the nature of the punishments but admitted: “I'm not happy about it. I didn't know anything about the trip at all. It is being dealt with internally. I'll sort out tomorrow's game against Blackburn, and then sort them [the players] out.

“It's something we will keep in house and it will be sorted out.

Who would you class as better than Keane, and available? Genuine question. I know we don't know what the scouts know, as in who is -really- available. But just from guesswork.

If Redknapp had thought Keane was a better bet than any of his other forwards he wouldn't have shipped him out to Celtic, regardless of whether they had fallen out.

Football just doesn't work like that.  If a manager thinks a player is worth the trouble they will stick by them almost no matter what they've done.  There's too much self-interest involved to deny yourself the services of a good player.

i mentioned 5 just from la liga who had scored more and were probably available in our price range. But there you go, abroad being the insurmountable obstacle

OK you win; the party in Dublin had nothing to do with Irishman Robbie Keane and was in fact organised by Wilson Palacios. You don't need to be Columbo to see the connection with Keane going to Celtic a couple of weeks later. The same article says:

Quote
Yet the future now looks uncertain for Keane, who could be stripped of the captaincy and may even be on his way out of White Hart Lane for a second time in January.

And, surprise, surprise, that is just what happened.

You do argue some stupid shit at times, the whole world seems to accept that Keane as captain took the rap for organising that party but because it doesn't suit the point your trying to make you won't believe it.

Yeah, you guys are right. Fuck Keane, let's sign Doyle and Cole instead. Younger, resale value.

Or, we could sign a genuine quality player like Keane who can score and create, who can lead the line or drop deep. Sure, he's not 24 - and sorry he's not foreign. But he's got skill, proven in the division, and can score goals. Mourinho has come out and said he loves to buy older players, as opposed to young players. Would you guys really say that Mourinho has the complete wrong idea when it comes to transfers?

If you are in it for the short term buy older players. Mourinho only stays at a club two seasons so is not at all worried about future club finances.  I am into Villa for the long term and for this club to have a viable future we need to be developing players. Keane has no resale value and if he plays to his maximum will not guarentee a fourth place finish. Why not go broke, why not look to have our cake and eat it. Why not buy someone who just is young and might improve and lead us glory. Lets roll the dice.

Redknapp had said several times in the early part of the season that 4 strikers was too many and he needed to offload one. At the start of the season  Pavlawotsit was the one left out and they tried to flog him to the Noses but he wouldn't go. It was only when Keane was loaned to Celtic that he started playing him. The self interest was in Redkanpp reasserting his authority.

It's funny that you're all able to attribute that sort of behaviour to MON but not Dirty Harry.

Chris do you honestly believe that if it had been Michael Dawson or Jermaine Defoe or Aaron Lennon who had organised the party that Redknapp would have packed them off to Celtic on loan?

Of course he wouldn't.  The only reason he took that action with Keane is that he believed Keane wouldn't be missed.  And he was right.

Keane really isn't good enough, and if he ever was it was pretty briefly. Now he's past his not-so-considerable peak, and hardly seems like a good influence either. He barely has nothing to recommend him.

so no Quote from redknapp about keane at all then? So only irish people organise trips to Dublin? thought so. We all know your game by now Chris. Only reason you're trying to big him up is because you think its likely to happen now rather than any major belief in his ability. If MON comes out and denies any interest in Keane tomorrow, while the people who want Keane will complain and be disappointed, you'll be coming out with your "i trust MON"  cobblers like a broken record.

You know the answer to that question I think Dave.

We all know too well the market we're shopping in. Keanes one of the tastier options on the shelf.

Doh'Neill is incapable of shopping overseas, so it's almost inevitable that we'll end up with one of the sub standard names from the list above (Add Zamora and simmer)

The thing is, if Keane was the best striker at Spurs he would have stayed. IMO Harry saw a way of laying down the law to his squad and making a whole for Gudjohnson. You obv think that Keane was Harrys first choice but arranging a party was worth losing a star player over. Who knows who's actually right.
