Personally, I don't care about the price. It's not me paying it.

Yes it is. We cannot expect Randy to put money in forever. Aston Villa needs to be run from the money it generates. Just as its your money that pays for the police through taxation. Its your money from the turnstile that will pay for Keane at 65k per week. I want my money invested better.

He's not the player he was, Redknapp is no mug and he knows he's a busted flush.
29 too.

No.

I could handle signing him, but only at the right price.

I would not sign him whatever the price. This is the one spot we can really improve our first XI. If we replace Petrov, Friedal, Carlos (right back) we will improve but not vastly.
With the right partner for Gabby (and luck with injuries) I think we can garner a further 5-10 points.
Keane is not a cheap choice, Imo it would be a smarter investment to pick up Falcoa (15 mil) rather than Keane at (8m). Even if it meant spending nothing else this summer. Keane is not a cheap option, he will have no re-sale value.
We have the solid players, we know we can finish top six, we need a player to kick us on. Keane will keep us where we are.

So he's 3 years younger than Drogba; talk of him being past it at 29 is ridiculous.

He fell out with Redknapp, that's why he's available. As I've said before he is exactly the type of player we need, someone with a bit of nous in the box. If anyone can identify a similar player who is younger, better and available then I'll accept the arguments against Keane but until then I'll continue to think he's our best option.

or Rodallega?

CLICKY

That same article says, 'Villa boss O’Neill has targeted the Wigan Athletic striker – after his failed bid to beat rivals Birmingham City to the signing of Serbian striker Nicola Zigic.'

They write such unadulterated rubbish. Do you think they just make up this tosh?

I think I'll make one up too. Now let's see ..

"Aston Villa manager, looking to replace his strike pair of Heskey and Carew is in negotiations with Premiership newcomers to sign Andy Carroll in a swap deal for Nigel Reo-Coker. Newcastle are known to be keen to beef up their midfield with a quality replacement for ageing Nicky Butt"

There now. Fact.

I think Rodallega is good, but can't see us signing him.

You cant compare him with Drogba, big stikers get better with age. Dublin was a better player at 31 than he was at 25. Micheal Owen was over the hill aged 25. As a couple of examples. Younger better available; Zarate, Falcoa, Rodallega, Suarez, Kalinic

never thought the day would come but i have to say i agree totally with chris smith.

keane is the man and he would improve gabbys game too, at 29 he has probably his best 3 yrs ahead of him as we have seen from drogba at that age.

get him mon and let the doubters come here in a years time and say how wrong they were , as with dunne and collins!

It was in all the papers Greg, didn't you make a note in your scrapbook?

Organised a Christmas party after being told he couldn't, was sent out on loan to Celtic a couple of weeks later...

I agree with you that over the last 3 years Keane has been better than any of these players. Over the next three- imo no chance. We also have the option to make money on the young players which is impossible in signing Keane.

Keane is a typical Villa signing steady and guarenteed to keep us sixth. Lets have some ambition.
