Behrami would be very good.

First West Ham link of the summer that I would be happy with.

Shame it's only in the Mirror.

Not for me, he has had the odd good game but is very volatile and goes missing completely most of the time.

The more i think about it, the more i'm warming to the idea of us signing  Keane. He's a bit different to what we've already got and has still got goals in him, although i reckon Spuds will no doubt over-price him, which could be the stumbling block.

I don't get it.

Why, when we are on the cusp of the new UEFA "financial fair play" rules, do people think it is a good idea for our billionaire owner to make a profit on transfers this season?

This season and next are the last chance to build our squad value before the new rules kick in.

I would love for Randy to put all his money into Villa and not ask for a cent back. I just think we cant expect him too. What if he was taken ill suddenly and the family decided not to invest in Villa? The only way can make a profit and be successful is if we buy younger players and develop them. Gregory should have signed Robbie Keane from Cov for 6 million all the years ago. The horse has bolted, it has run round the world twice, lets find the next one.

Keane got two goals for Ireland last night against Algeria.

I'd quite like Behrami. From memory he is quite young?

I'd still like us to sign Keane. We know what market we'll be shopping in, what sort of budget we'll have. He's one of the best we'll be able to get.

Plus, Richard Dunne. The impact he's had here, and that we've had for him, only makes me want us to sign Keane more. If that can happen again he'll be top class for us.

Behrami, I'm not convinced on. He'd certainly be more useful than Downing has been thus far (I still expect Stewie to kick on though), and it would mean Ash stays on the left where he's best.

On Downing, fantasy football stats seem to suggest he's got two goals and one assist in the last two seasons!!! Even allowing for injuries and Boro's relegation that's really, really poor for a £12m international winger

It's clearly bollocks, he's scored 3 for us.

Presumably, it's just counting league games. In which case, the 2 goals are those against Burnley. I think he did have a long dry stretch without a league goal before that.

Yep, league games only. My boro supporting mate picked him last year and told me he got no goals and no assists (though I haven't checked this myself).

But this year, definitely just the 2 goals against Burnley and one assist (v Burnley too?)

Edited: he seems to have got 3 assists last season accordng to 2nd link below. Still not exactly earth shattering though (no goals though)

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/squad?teamId=369&season=2008&cat=starts&cc=5739&leagueId=23&league=eng.1&seasontype=1

Right, I'm beginning to feel like a right loser, off for some beers I think!

Downing is a confidence player.

When Boro had their run to the Uefa cup final he set up most of their goals.

And when he first started playing for us in December when we were playing well he looked the part also.

But when our form dips don't expect him to be able to drag us out of a crisis like Young or Milner have done in the past.

Should've had more goals though, some of his misses like against Arsenal and Wolves were woeful.

I'd actually start him on the bench next season to give him a kick up the backside.

Indeed, he managed a total of 0 in 37 games last season for Boro. For a bloke who is meant to have the best left foot in the league, short of some decent cross field balls he has been fecking crap, and needs a huge bollocking to either sort himself out, or be on the bench. He doesn't work as hard as Young, try as hard as Young, effect the game as much as Young does. It is a harsh comparison I know, but Downing just lacks heart, and players lacking heart always annoy me.

6 million on Adam Johnson. 2 million on Kranjcar. 12 million on Malouda. 12 million on Downing. Hmmmm..

Anyhow, we bought my predicted list of players yet?

i think that the issue is that revenue will have to accomadate player wages and amortisation, so buying big now may not be that simple

And how many assists?

Go on.
