Oh shit...the thought of Keane doing that poxy fucking celebration in claret & blue makes me want to heave me lungs up.

No. No. A million times NO!

The thought of him doing it in a cup final makes me very happy. I am not struck, but if we could get him for 2 million and Davies we would have got a decent deal out of it.

A friend and I do our predictions this time of year. Not who we want but what we think will happen.

I plumped for

In

Ireland - part ex milner
Jenas - part ex Davies
Keane - 9m
Carlton Cole - 12m
Clyne - 4m

Out

Milner - 23 plus Ireland
Sidwell - 4m
NRC - 4m
Shorey - 2.5m
L Young 4.5m
Davies - part ex a spurs player
Heskey - 2m ish

Meaning we make a profit but ultimately are still not a great amount more creative. Add a Benayoun option too and we would have a very decent squad.

Not Keane, please not Keane. He was good, but he is past it. I know he's 29, but nevertheless he is well past his peak.

Far to early to write him off based on a few months with a manger who he didn't get on with.

He scored a few goals in the Euro Disnae League but looked terribly sluggish.

If we could get from Keane, what we've got from Dunne, a player seemingly on the decline, but just in need of the right move and motivation, then he'd be a hell of a signing.

I would hope he'd be re-invigorated by coming to a decent side, and playing week in and week out.

Most on here weren't entirely sure about Dunne, but he's been the best CB in the top flight this season.

Keanes still got it all there in his locker. Get him playing and he'll get 15-20, as he normally tends to.

The thought of three quarters of our major summer activity being Jenas, Keane and Cole just makes me want to weep.

Agree with this.

Would prefer better, but for the right price (and providing we don't start packing the squad out with 30 somethings) I'd go for him.

The age factor does need to be a consideration though:

Friedel 39
Cuellar 28
Dunne 30
Warnock 28
Petrov 30
Carew 30
Ivanhoe 31

At the moment, it's just about right. Carew and Heskey don't often start together so you'd generally say 6 of the above feature in the starting XI at any one time.

But if we sell Milner this summer and bring in the likes of Scott Parker and Keane as suggested, you've suddenly got 8 players out of 11  in and around the 30 mark (both Cuellar and Warnock will be 29 next year).

I think we need to be looking at younger players. Our squad is starting to get older now.

age matters when your a striker and especially when it concerns a player like keane , over the past few seasons his agility / pace / awareness has gone , he has looked a shadow of a player he once was.

He had pace, but it was never blistering.

He might have lost a touch of sharpness too, but at the things he's always been decent at -namely linking up play and finishing- he should still be able to bring that to the party.

Keane at 29/30 would still arguably be the best finisher at the club if we land him. If any signing improves on what you already have it's justified.

I'm just not a fan of Keane - I'd prefer Forlan personally.  And as for midfield let's get Ireland plus cash for Milner, and use some of it to get Scott Parker.  There's your midfield sorted as well.  Finally buy absolutely anyone at all as right back cover, as they'll never get a game.  Simples.

it just shows how bad we are in need of a striker when if keane comes he would be labeled as our best finisher (which he would be....)

btw i am undecided about keane he was quality with spurs first time around however after moving to Liverpool it seems like the fat Spanish bastard ruined him .

I've nailed my wishlist:

Onouha and Ireland- Both to come in a Milner swop and 15m in cash.

Veloso- Think he could be a good replacement for Petrov eventually, in any case him and Petrov in a defensive middle two would at least ensure we keep it on the ground. Can also play in defence if required. Get him in for 10 or 11m.

Clyne or Matthews- Not fussed which one, maybe Clyne might be cheaper with Palace still in administration and the more attacking.

Rodallega- Potentially very good. Not many decent strikers around, this lad can play out wide and chips in with important goals. Again in the 10m range.

So...

Friedel/Guzan

Onouha/Clyne
Dunney/Collins
Cuellar/Clark
Warnock/L. Young (would get rid of Shorey and Beye and convince Luke to stay).

Downing/Rodallega/Albrighton
Petrov/Delph (2nd half of the season)
Veloso/NRC
Young

Ireland (in a free role when we play 4-5-1)

Gabby/Carew/Fonz

Decent squad there, not perfect but would offer more variety.

I would lean towards 4-2-3-1, have Petrov and Veloso and NRC aternatin as the two holders depending on opposition. Young on the left where he's best, Ireland in the free role and Rodallega cutting in from the right with Gabby as the lone forward. In a 4-4-2, move Rodallega up top and Ireland out wide perhaps.

Wouldn't cost the earth, infact if we make 15m from player sales, we won't even have a net spend this summer.

I'm not a fan of Robbie Keane, the little invisible-bow-and-arrow club-hopping pixie, but if we could get him fairly cheap then fair enough.  Would be a decent option to have in the squad and the likes of Delfouneso would learn from him.

Cash plus Davies though, no chance.

City in talks with Higuain, Gago and Dzeko.

If they start the summer off with these then they'll be in
the top 2.

We've got no chance

I'd only take Keane if it was dead cheap, anything over £7.5m would be too much! He's a risk in that he could well be past it.

As others have said, this really is the summer where start to replenish the squad, four years into MON's reign, some of the lynchpins of his side aren't getting any younger. Might be worth bringing in a few players in their mid twenties if we can.
