Chico, you need to add the 5 he scored for Liverpool in 08-09 to the 5 he scored once back at Spurs in 08-09 to give the 10 figure we've been referring to. Then it becomes 6, 10, 15.

Keane got 6 league goals last season in just over half a season in the Premier League, and loads in the two seasons before.  5 goals is a little bit wrong.

An average of 5 premier league goals a season for the last 3 seasons is actually correct.

And Keane has never scored more than 16 top-flight league goals in a season in his career

Eh?

07/08 - 15 goals
08/09 - 10 goals
09/10 - 6 goals

Even if you're unharitable and say that's 3 seasons rather than 2.5, that's still an average of over 10 goals, not 5.

As for not scoring more than 16 top flight goals, he also hasn't failed to get into double figures since 2002 (apart from last season when he fucked off to Scotland).

I admit I'm no accountant - and I've got no intention of having one of the stupid, drawn-out stat debates that haunt this site -  but just check Keane's league goals for the last 3 seasons from the link I attached.

Am I misreading something there?

YES! Check the link again and pay particular attention to the dates

Would take him for a fee between £5 -8 million.

£12-15 million for Tottingham's fourth choice forward would be funny farm material.

You sign Robbie Keane at 8 million on 60k a week for three years. At the end of the contract he is going to be worth nada aged 32-33. So you have spent 17 million quid on what I reacon to be 30 premier league goals (ten a season). We have bought Young and Milner and saw there value increase surely MON realises this is the right thing to do and will look to invest in Falcoa, Rodellega or Klasnic.

Richard Dunne was 29 when we signed him and I doubt we'll get much for him at the end of his contract, was that a bad deal too?

I tell you what if we can get Ireland and 20million for Milner, allowing us to sign Richards and Robbie Keane with a few million left over, I'd be absolutely delighted.

We'd have made a profit, a massive improvement albeit only on paper and would have another 15-20million in saleable assets to refresh the squad a little more.

I've never been a member of the Jermaine Jenas fan club as he is exactly the kind of midfielder I don't like who is neither one thing nor another.

That said I do think he is a better player than Sidwell or Reo Coker.

As for Keane if you ignore the goals (many of which were penalties) he hasn't really looked that good for Celtic. It might be that he was carrying knocks but I was unconvinced. He could prove to be a white elephant if we spend big on him.

My main concern about Parker is that at 29 he is not that much younger than Petrov.

If Ann Summers F.C are willing to part with him at a sensible price then I'd be happy.

I had that opinion TheSandman, until i realised that Zanetti was 35/36.

Parker strikes me as a proper professional, so i think you will get a good 3/4 yrs out of him.He is the same age as Petrov, but he's better than Petrov.

If/when Milner goes, a midfield choice of Petrov/Ireland/Parker plus an other or NRC, would'nt be too bad.

Parker has a far better engine on him than Petrov. He can run and run. He'd add more bite to our midfield.

Upon my attempts to find the best passer out of Petrov and Parker I discovered the PL's top passer was....

Barry Ferguson. Fucking hell.

Petrov ranked fifth for tackles... No Parker.

Parker - see Matt Holland 10 years ago when we went for him! Only one way his career is going, and has been going for a few seasons now. We should have bought him 3-4 seasons ago really, instead of Sidwell or Reo Coker, but at near on 30, it is just mad. In fact, unless truly world class, big wages and about 5 million in transfer fee should not be considered for an over 29 year old as a policy of the club.

This is the point people overlook.

We tend to just focus on transfer fees without thinking about the wages commitment.

Keane's time has been and gone now. He'll be looking for his last big contract, too, so he won't take low wages happily.

Avoid.

I'd still be keen to bring in a younger striker on top of that, we need two.

With Harewood and (hopefully) Ivanhoe taking their invisible man routines elsewhere that should free up the wage bill somewhat. There will be other departures as well.

For the sake of argument, a forward quartet of:

Keane
Carew
Gabby
Rodellega

would look a lot better than our current options, and is realistic in the current climate. Gives us a bit of everything; experience, nous, creativity power and speed up top.
