If it was the Keane of 2/3 years ago i'd agree. the over 30 version we'd get, no. Especially at the price they supposedly want for him.

I think he's 29 as we speak, so should be good for two years anyway.

It would have to be a sensible price and I wouldn't touch him for the £15m being quoted in the press.  At £8-9m I'd be interested.

Keane's still got a while left in him yet.

Droga is 32, for example.

Don't have a problem with his age. He's 30 in July. A year younger than Carew, two and a half years younger than Heskey. Same age as Gerrard. And yes, Heskey has been bad so it's easy to bring in an improved player but Keane would be a significant improvements in terms of goals - he's typically good for 15 or so a season. And he's that type of player we don't currently have, that missing link between midfield and attack, a striker with a bit of craft. He'd score and create.

The doubts? The price - Spurs have a handy knack of getting top dollar for their players and no way should we pay £15m. I'd go to £8m, no higher. And the hunger: he's had two tough seasons where he's been pretty much kicked in the teeth by Liverpool and then Spurs. But if we can re-invigorate him, he'd be an asset.

Yeah, I like Jenas too. Honestly, the thought of signing both Jenas and Keane hardly thrills me (Keane would have done three years ago) but if you're talking about improving the squad, this pair are definitely a step above players we've currently got. Better than Sidwell and Heskey? Absolutely.

First things first let's improve the first 11 which seems to be good enough for 6th but anything beyond is unlikely now. We really need to pull our fingers out if we lose Milner which is looking increasingly likely.

We need to finish above Spurs next season. We are not going to do this by buying their cast offs. Robbie Keane-no thanks.

As we've discussed before I think Keane is the 'type' of striker we need. His style of play is just what we are missing. It's clear that since his bust up with Redknapp over the Christmas party he's got no future at Spurs so, if there's any truth in it, it would seem a good deal for all concerned.

Jenas I'm less sure about. A good player no doubt but I've never been 100% convinced.

I'm in agreement here.

As I've mentioned before, I got chatting to a Spuds fan before the match at Villa Park the season before last (lost 2-1) who said Jenas was a 1 good game in 4 player, and that day he was due one of his good games. And so it happened.

We weren't too far off Man City with their cast off at centre half, and he had a far better season than his replacement.

I think our bench needs improving at least as much as our first 11, which I think matches up quite well with our rivals.  It's beyond the first 11 that we are far weaker than our rivals.

He has been a bit of a transfer yo yo of late for his sins. Does that indicate a striker coming to the end of his career. Otherwise he fits Mon's spec ideally, past 30, on big salary, been around, speaks English with the right accent, drinks, and has scored goals.

Do wonder whether he'd like being the main target man though.

Just because Spurs don't need him doesn't mean he won't improve us.  No doubt if we had some guile in midfield with the likes of Modric and Kranjcar, we wouldn't be desperate for a creative striker too, but we don't and they do.

Hmmm. We could sign players to improve the squad... who also contribute to the first X1 and actually play in the first X1... Keane, for example, I'd expect to play alongside Gabby most of the time.

Defender Richard Dunne would welcome Stephen Ireland to Aston Villa if his time at Manchester City comes to an end this summer.

The Republic of Ireland international made the same move last summer and amid speculation that Ireland could follow him to Villa Park, would be happy to see him do just that.

Speaking as he launched the Football Association of Ireland's Goal to Work programme in Kilinarden today, Dunne said: "He had a bit of a stop and start season last year after the previous season, when he was unbelievable.

"I think Stephen would say himself that he wants to get more games and play more regularly, and if that's not at Manchester City, he would be more than welcome at Villa.

"Everyone in the Premier League knows on his day how good he can be, and he would be a great addition to any side."

£20million and Ireland would be brilliant business I reckon.

It seems like we've been linked to Keane and Jenas for years,so isnt this just newspaper bullshit?? We need to be looking at better quality if it is true.

IMO they are not comparable. Dunne played all first team matches in the season before we signed. If he was still there he would be in the team ahead of Lescott. Robbie Keane cannot get in the Spurs team, Xmas party or no Xmas party he is not as good as Crouch or Defoe. I don't doubt he might go straight into our first team but I think in finding a a partner for Gabby is the easiest way we can strengthen our first team and we should be looking for someone better than an ageing Spurs reserve.

I quite liked the look of Dos Santos last night. For a good price he'd be worth a punt. Plenty of promise, and could be useful to battle it out with Downing for a spot. He's not even a bencher for Spurs, which is surprising becuase he's got a lot of ability. His application is questionnable though, but if Mart can sort him out, he's worth a punt.

I'd welcome Keane. You know what you get, and he's a good player. He's not really suited to how Redknapp likes to play.

But saying that, O Neill is also very much a big man, little man merchant. I don't see him wanting a withdrawn striker like Keane.
