I actually suggested in an H&V article that the signing of Downing might give us a chance to give Milner a go in the middle but that is by the by.

Perhaps it's because I don't watch other football outside of us, and didn't do the Fiorentina friendly, but I have seen Delph twice.

He looked a little boy lost against Wigan and was OK against Man Man Utd.

I haven't seen enough of him yet to suggest to me will be bursting into a first team regular any time soon.

To be fair, neither did Ash when he first arrived and played.

Whatever happened to Michael Johnson? Two seasons back in the early stages, he looked top quality, then he just drifted away. People were calling him the next Gerrard (but that can either mean he's a twat, or he's a decent footballer, so maybe they meant twat??).

Didn't the lad get a touch of the fancy dan syndrome and acting up a bit? He's been injured too, but his career seems to have ground to a halt.

I do see a lot of City's younger lot getting moved on. The Weiss fella looks quite useful, I think he's a Slovenian international. There's enough potential in Richards and Onouha for O Neill to turn into top quality. If Richards sorts his brains out and his positioning, he could be world class.

I think I read that he was injured and that he'd had an operation

Carlsberg don’t do wasted talents. But if they did, they’d involve endless bottles of our product and Michael Johnson. And some pies.

Edit: The Gareth Barry diet! NOW WITH EXTRA BOOZE!

Johnson looked class a couple of years ago for City but then allegedly had a problem with alcohol and then when he finally returned this season did his cruciate straight away.

It's about as tenuous as a transfer link gets but Altintop on a Bosman is a better than average tenuous link.

Rate him. Wouldn't be too unhappy if he signed.

But only for a couple of seasons. An upgrade on Petrov needs to be significantly young IMO.

Delph.

Genuine question, why is everyone so convinced that Delph is going to be a world beater?

He started what, 2 or 3 league games last season. I have seen nothing as yet which suggests he is going to be a top drawer footballer.

Of course he is still young, and has some good raw attributes, but to be putting all of our eggs in that basket seems like blind hope rather than having any substance.

The Fiorentina coach was very impressed with him last year after the pre season friendly. "I knew all about Young, nobody told me about Delph."

He looked the best player on the pitch that day, which when you consider their roll call of internationals and our team containing the likes of Ash and Milner is no mean feat.

You could argue it was only pre season, but it was a week before the domestic campaign.

He's got a few things to work on. But what he has, you can't teach.
No guarantees, but he looks capable of going all the way. I'm glad it's us that have him and not Everton or Tottenham.

Yes. Would be a good signing. Probably unlikely.

Why will Delph be such a good player?......obviosly expecting him to get fully fit, good passer, positive passer, good on the ball, tenacious, quick, good acceleration, and more importantly, he's a cocky little sod.....a winner if you like.We forget hes 19, against Wigan, i was there, i thought he was our best player, against Man Ure, he never looked out of depth, and kept taking the ball off Rooney all the time.

He also plays well with others. The best i saw Petrov play last year was Bolton away....Delph played. The best i saw Milner play was Palace at home, Delph played.......versatile as well.

I still think of Delph as a better version of NRC in that he can pass a bit better and get forward more so I'm still not thinking of him as a long term Petrov replacement.

We were linked with this Guardado earlier on in the campaign. Lets see what he's about.

Isn't it the law that if they quote more than two 'linked clubs' then it's journalist code for the entire story being a complete fabrication?

Citeh are now being linked with a £20m move for Mikel Arteta in the Guardian.  So it seems their transfer policy this summer is to buy (or unsettle at least) the best players at their main rivals.
