West Ham don't have any money, therefore I think we should bid 85 pence, 3 cans of Skol Super (out of date) and some of James Milner's residue. If they want more than that then they can get bent.

Yup, Blues would probably accept that for Marcus Bent.

I don't think Rooney will be leaving them.

ALEX FERGUSON SNUB FOR WAYNE ROONEY ON SIGNINGS

Wayne Rooney hoped that United would spend big but Sir Alex Ferguson says that is unlikely
 Thursday May 20,2010
By Richard Tanner  Have your say(0)
NO matter how many times Manchester United make claims to the contrary, fans remain sceptical that Sir Alex Ferguson’s hands are not being tied in the transfer market by the Glazers.

Reaction to Ferguson’s admission that he will make only one major signing – and that was qualified with a ‘maybe’ – prompted an outpouring of dismay on fans’ forums yesterday.

And it will not just be supporters who are deflated. In a recent interview, Wayne Rooney called for two major signings to help United’s bid to wrest the domestic title back from Chelsea and re-establish United as the dominant force in European football.

One of those, according to Rooney, certainly needs to be a striker who can help him with the goalscoring burden amid criticism of Dimitar Berbatov’s strike ratio, doubts about Michael Owen’s fitness and questions over whether new signing Javier Hernandez and fellow youngsters Federico Macheda and Danny Welbeck can turn potential into consistent productivity.

Ferguson’s policy admission, as United unveiled plans for their pre-season tour to America, could not have been more ill-timed, with the Daily Express revealing Barcelona’s discreet moves to snap up Rooney for £80million and the anti-Glazer protest group signposting that the club’s controversial American owners need to find a further £75m to service an interest rate hike on their PIK loans in August.

Those spiralling debts will only serve to encourage Barca, although Rooney has stated repeatedly that he has no desire to leave. More to the point, after last year’s departures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, United could not, dare not, even contemplate a sale.

Amid briefings from the Glazer camp that United will not break their wage structure, Rooney still needs to be kept happy – both in his wages and about United’s ambition.

When talks start on a new contract after the World Cup, he will want a deal that reflects the fact that he is not only England’s best player but also in the top three in the world, with Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. He is understood to earn £90,000 a week and even though he will leapfrog Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs as United’s top earner, to over £120,000, he will be way short of what Tevez, Robinho and Emmanuel Adebayor earn at Manchester City or what Barca and Real Madrid can offer.

  SEARCH FOOTBALL for:

He will need to be assured that Ferguson is true to his word about landing a top signing. With Valencia’s David Villa moving to Barcelona for £34m yesterday, and Messi and Fernando Torres out of reach, the list of available top stars is restricted, especially if United will not be held to ransom on wages.

Ferguson is understood to be weighing up a move for Real’s Karim Benzema – a player he tried to buy from Lyon last summer – while Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery or Ajax’s Luis Suarez are possible alternatives. United insist there is the remainder of the £80m fee received from the sale of Ronaldo and more if Ferguson wants it. They point out that over the year since Ronaldo left for Madrid, about £40m has been spent, on Antonio Valencia (£16m), Gabriel Obertan (£3m), Mame Biram Diouf (£4m), Chris Smalling (£10m) and Hernandez (£8m).

All are young but, apart from Valencia, none has real experience.

With veterans Edwin van der Sar, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville entering what is likely to be their final season, the overwhelming view is that United need more than one major signing.

But chief executive David Gill is bullish that United will still be playing in front of full houses. He says there is no evidence – yet – that the call by the anti-Glazers to boycott the renewal of season tickets has been heeded.

He said: “There haven’t been any boycotts and every match has been sold out. Our season ticket sales and renewals are on track with previous seasons.”

Gill says United’s revenue streams can service the debt burden. But if it were not for that debt, that money would let Ferguson fight Barcelona, Chelsea and City for top stars. Fans, and Rooney, will be watching.‘This comes with Barcelona lining up a bid for Rooney’

While I dont want to lose Milner, I believe that £20M plus SWP would be a deal that would benefit both ourselves and City. If the £20m was spent on a top quality replacement such as Van Der Vaart, I even think that we would be stronger than we were last season. SWP would offer variation on the wings and VDV would be a more than adequate replacement for Milner with money left over to put towards a striker.

It's not about replacing Milner, it's about adding to him. He's an excellent player, but we are clearly one creative player short at least. Losing him would just set us back.

And thinking objectively, with the sort of finance + player deals on offer... actually keeping him could set us back.

ASTON VILLA fancy Valencia pair Nikola Zigic and Miguel.

Boss Martin O'Neill is ready to bid £9.5million for the duo as the Spanish club need to pay debts by June 30.

Serbian striker Zigic and Portuguese defender Miguel have deals until next summer but O'Neill hopes to get them on the cheap.

Valencia will be willing to negotiate if the full fee is paid up front and in cash.

Zigic, 29 and 6ft 7in, was loaned to former club Racing Santander in 2009 and regained form with 13 goals in 19 games.

Villa look certain to lose either John Carew or Emile Heskey - or possibly both hitmen.

Miguel, 30, has 52 caps for Portugal and Villa want a right-back replacement for Luke Young, who is set to leave.
The defender has been named in Carlos Queiroz's provisional 30-man Portugal squad for next month's World Cup in South Africa

We've been linked with those two every summer since I can remember just about.

I wonder if Carlton Palmer has been seen at the mailbox this afternoon?

Well, Zigic is very tall, and MON likes tall strikers.

Talking of shit strikers, is anyone else vaguely worried about the fact James Beattie can leave Stoke, probably on a free, this summer?

Robbie Keane set to seal £15million move to Villa

Robbie Keane is set to move from Tottenham to Aston Villa in a £15million deal.

Keane is viewed as surplus to front-line requirements at Tottenham and spent much of last season on loan at Celtic.

Villa are ready to meet the asking price, particularly if they pick up £30m for James Milner from either Manchester City or Chelsea.

Better than Carlton Cole.

But at £15million and the way he seemed so ring rusty and not quite that good at Celtic, I mean in the SPL for Pete's sake.

If we paid £15 million for Robbie Keane we may as well give up. Not good enough and what a stupid fee.
