Must be honest I'd accept 20m + Ireland + Onouha.

Onouha would nicely complete the defence, Ireland would add much need creativity to the middle and we'd still have 20m to play with plus whatever else we make from other sales so probably in total 35m to sign a top quality striker and another central midfielder.

Life will go on.

Yeah, I'd be able to cope with the above deal.

Genuine question - how often do player + cash swap deals really happen? They are always suggested but I can only think of Etoo/Ibrahimovic in recent times. I think they are more of a fan thing than a real life thing.

Tends to happen more further down the leagues where money is a bit more tight.

Having said that, it could happen in this case if we were intersted in the player they want rid of as Man City are looking to offload a few. I think it's fair to say Onuoha has played his last game for them after his pretty harsh criticism of Mancini.

Another genuine question - what is the tax situation on football transfers?

I would guess VAT would apply? How about if you swap two players? Would it apply then?

We sold Solano to the Barcodes and got Milner in return on a year's loan.

They do happen more frequently on the continent though.

If we're talking about 20-30million for Milner then the likes of: Ireland, Arteta, Van Der Vaart, Carrick, Muntari, Toulalan would all be gettable, most of them would improve us and would probably all leave us with enough money to buy a centre forward and right back of sufficient quality to kick us on.

If we can get £30million or substantial money and Ireland and Richards then we have to take it. It's stupendous money and would give us the funds to kick on.

He's not that good. Although I suspect he can and will be, eventually.

Today my gut feeling has moved to fear that Milner will leave this summer. I think the "Do I expect to be at Villa next season? I don't know," quote on the SSN website has exacerbated this.

I think Milner is a great player but I also feel that if we hold out for an excessive deal from Citeh and reinvest wisely we could actually start the season in a much stronger position

If we get £20m + Ireland and Onuoha we wouldn't be in a bad position, I know this seems like too much, but this is Man Citeh and if they want him that bad then we call the price! We should then invest that £20m plus the money from a good clear out on people like Mo Diame from Wigan and I think if Bentley is going cheap he would be an astute purchase. Then get a good goal scorer in, for me Roberto Soldado from Getafe would be ideal and a young RB like Clyne from Palace.

-----------------------Friedel---------------------

Onuoha-------Cuellar-----Dunne-----Warnock

-----------------Diame----Petrov---------------

------Bentley--------Ireland------Young--------

----------------------Soldado--------------------

Subs: Guzan, Collins, Clyne, Downing, NRC/Delph, Gabby, Delfouneso

In:
Ireland (p/x)
Onuoha (p/x)
Diame (8m)
Bentley (10m)
Soldado (12m)
Clyne (4m)
Total = £34m

Out:
Milner (20m)
Davies (6m)
Sidwell (3.5m)
Shorey (2m)
Young (2.5m)
Heskey (2m)
Harewood (Free)
Osbourne (Free)
Salifou (Free)
Total = £36m

Net Spend= £2m PROFIT

I haven't seen that much of Diame. Is he really that good? He doesn't seem to be linked with moving that much?

He's only been there 10 months, he's still fairly young but is a good physical presence in the middle. When I've seen him I've been impressed.

I wouldn't play that formation at all times, but I like the squad. Maybe not Diame, but someone solid like him as a defensive midfielder.

Heskey and Sidwell may well be switched with Carew and NRC in the real world, mind.

I agree, but that formation and team could easily switch to 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 and 4-4-2, although I'd rather we steered away from 4-4-2
I mentioned Diame as I was impressed when I saw him play and I think being British based he'd attract MON. I'd like a specialist DM to play alongside Petrov or challenge him for a place. Anthony Annan who plays for Rosenborg is a cracking player. He's similar to Michael Essien. He's only 5'8" but is great on the ball and as strong as an ox, should turn up in the WC for Ghana this summer.

Annan has a great future, but even moreso unlikely. Diame coming in would be genius, I think. Solid defensive mid, just what we need. Some steel. I think leaving Gabby out is dangerous, is all. Improving every year, always a danger, becoming stronger and better at holding up the ball, all without losing his pace. Should be brilliant next year.

Diame made the most successful tackles after Mascherano and someone else at Liverpool I think last season. Ideal really and one I would love to see brought in. I think the above scenario with Onourha and Ireland as the make weights would be ideal, although I think the cash would be about 17 million then realistically. I would then be tempted if no one had come in to stick Reo Coker in the attacking role. May be a mad thought, but his energy to get in the box would be there, and I think he could be a bit of a revelation.

Out of interest, why would people prefer Onohua to Richards? Both are as gettable. Richards was the top defensive prospect in the league at one point, I reckon O'Neill would bring that back out of him.

NRC as a box-to-box would always work, he's full of energy and explosive. He'd be rotating with Pet & Diame, if all this came off - in my mind. I love his bite and drive. Still say losing him would be a big mistake.

Agreed, NRC is hard done by IMO, and when he played was always very good last season, and a true inspiration up at Anfield as he lead us to victory.

Richards I have not included simply due to the seen wisdom that he is earmarked to be joining Arry this summer.
