What worries me is that SAF rather ominously said today that Manu would probably sign one player this summer - and if they came in with a similar bid, or cash plus say Carrick or Hargreaves (injured so ideal for MON), I could see Milner being more understandably tempted.

Let's hope that if the awful Carrick or the broken Hargreaves are thrown in then nobody else is tempted.

We're safe - they signed a Mexican striker a couple of weeks ago. So the ambassador of truth that is Fergie clearly isn't going to sign anyone else.

Barcelona are paying 45m for Villa, I believe. Which isn't that much less than Randy paid for the Villa.

The thing with selling to Man City is that they have now set their own yardstick.

The first thing Villa will be thinking about when Man City make offers for Milner is "Lescott was worth 24m for them, so Milner is worth ....."

downside to that is every manager in the country will use that figure when we look for his replacement. i'm sure 'Arry will be quoting 15m for Bentley

I think their first thought will be not for sale. I genuinely think they have no intention of selling.

Not unless it gets to, O.K, you're clearly mental and we can buy a new team sort of money. And it wont.

Not if he wants to sell him. There's the difference.

BBC reckon its £34m for Villa to Barca, Paulie.

As I said, if we get anywhere near that, snap their bloody hands off..whoever it is.

depends who's more desperate. if we get to August with only Petrov and NRC fit in CM he may have to bite the bullet.

I also worry about other teams trying to fleece us IF we get a bundle for Jimmy, but I do trust the present board and manager to not let that happen.  Working on the presumption he will go, maybe our best course of action would be to agree a few now, but keep it quiet, do our own buying first and then conclude the deal after the World Cup?

This transfer will be a dead cert i'm afriad, i'm now more worried as to who MON will buy with the proceeds.

'Hello, Mick McCarthy? I've got £25m burning a hole in my pocket, would you like £15m of it for Doyle?'

I agree, he's let the misrablists grind him down.

Talk of sorrow at Milner leaving for an extortionate fee is nothing to be sorry about.  We've lost better than him over the years in Yorke, Platt and even Barry when you compare the length of his stay with us.

We'd be losing a very good player but not someone who is not replaceable and for the fee we should be well able to build a stronger overall squad.

Speaking of Bentley, has anyone seen the rumours of the swap deal between him and Ashley Young?

After seeing the quality of Ashley Young's crossing this (last?) season, I'd be tempted.
