It's still only mid-May and we've rejected the first £20m bid for Milner.  This is going to be a long Summer.

Obviously it's all talk at the moment, but if we sell Milner and get Ireland and Bentley in then would we really miss him?

It depends if we get that all-important midfield engine.  We can't rely on Stan to do all the graft.  I'm gutted Delph is knackered, as I had high hopes for him this season.

YES!!

I'd take Ireland as a replacement, but we'd need a top class holding player behind him - that Petrov upgrade we've all been talking about for a while now.

Wouldn't touch Bellamy.

As for Bentley, this makes sense as both Downing and Ash are better on the left, so we'd have a natural rightsided winger and with three good widemen genuine options to rotate.  If we could swing it for less than £10m it would be a good deal!

So, were we to sell Milner (please God no!) for £20m plus Ireland and spent half of it on Bentley, we'd have £10m to go and find that quality midfield anchor man.  Then we might be looking quite good!!

I'm not really worried either. I dont think we'll let him go this summer regardless and I dont think Citeh will rate him as 'get at any cost'.

Unfortunately Maz, I think that's unfortunately EXACTLY how they rate him, and he'll be gone this summer.  £30m plus Ireland and I'd say we've got ourselves a deal.

Well that would be a fair enough offer I suppose. I cant see them offering it though but you never know. If they do see Milner as buy at any cost then we should test that to the max.

I'm still in favour of telling them to do one though, however much they offer. We cant build a team around Ireland or Bentley or whoever, good additions though they would be. But we can build a team around Milner. Hopefull we will.

In the end I think they will just look elsewhere. He wont be their only target and there will be a tipping point where its just not worth it to them. If we sting them for upwards of £35-£40m they could get most midfielders in the world. Maybe even Gerrard.

I'm still in a state of shock about the fee for Marlon combined with the wages. That was a shocking bit of business. At least when we signed Sidwell most of us thought he might be good. Marlon was never going to be anything better than ok.

The bench next season will be alot better and I will use them so please stay....    I wont expect you to play 6120 minutes and wont expect you to play when youre injured.

OK this obviously won't happen, but to the people saying we shouldn't let Milner go at any cost how about:

Let Milner go for £18million + Richards and Ireland.

With the money (plus say another 10-15million from the projected sales of Beye, Shorey, Davies, NRC, Heskey etc), slap in offers for Dzeko and Benayoun.

That'd make us a far better side. A competent right back, a replacement for Milner who's a similar level of ability, someone who can finally give us some craft and guile from wide-areas and a genuine world class centre forward.

IF it's on our terms we should definitely sell, we won't get the chance to get this much money for a player again for a while. Spurs and Everton show if re-invested wisely it can be very beneficial.

So how about him going to Untidy for 28 mil then? :)

0845 BST: Manchester United are ready to make a £28m bid for Aston Villa midfielder James Milner. Villa have already turned down a £20m bid from Manchester City for the 24-year-old who is currently with England at their pre-World Cup training camp in Austria.

From the BBC.

No problem - we turn that down aswell and see which of them comes back with more spondulees.

I'd still obviously prefer him to stay, but there is a bit in me that looks forward to fleecing either of those two for as much as possible!!

If Barca pay £30M for David Villa, and are looking at around £30M for Fabrigas, then anything approaching that for Jimmy is simply incredible.

I don't want to sell him, but if clubs are quoting £sillyM then fuck it, take the money and move on.

He's good..but he aint THAT good.
