Once you're in this cycle of selling your best players every summer you're not going to compete. makes you wonder what Lerner wants because if they don't get milner this summer,  you can bet someone will be back next year and we still won't be able to offer CL football

Are Spurs the exception yet again?

Everton competed quite well after selling Rooney.

I'm not really worried either. I dont think we'll let him go this summer regardless and I dont think Citeh will rate him as 'get at any cost'. Once we've got bored of telling them to fuck off and slapped a huge ridiculous fee on his head, they'll look elsewhere.

And its all very well saying players will move for money. You just dont know what is most important to him, what his priorities are. He might wait his turn and move to really big club, not the tramps who won the lottery, he might wait and see what happens at a club he's already comfortable at. You never know.

But at the end of it all, if we dont want to sell, he goes nowhere. And if Man City have suggested what they'll pay him then they have tapped him up and should be prosecuted.

you seem to forget spurs had years of selling their best players all the way back to the likes of waddle and gazza and never made cl, but i suppose we could posibly make 30m stretch to replacing milner and getting a top striker or two, and a right-back, and someone to replace the fire-sale 6. Everton are stuck in a loop. even if they make the top 4 by some fluke they haven't got the money to risk assembling a squad to cope with the pl and cl.

It doesn't always turn out like the papers assume it will. Arteta and Cahill have been leaving Everton now for about four years, and Lampard was moving from Chelsea, and Henry spent about four summers fluttering his eyelashes at Barca but not making the jump until recently...doesn't mean they've got particular scruples, more that your modern football deal is labyrinthine in terms of clauses and endorsments on behlaf of both player and club. Sometimes it really does come down to 'better the devil you know.'

Bursaspor move
Published 22:45 19/05/10 By James Nursey

Marlon Harewood has been offered a lucrative two-year deal by the new Turkish champions Bursaspor.

The 30-year-old is out of contract at Villa Park after joining in July 2007 from West Ham in a £4million deal and is available on a Bosman free.

Villa have not offered the forward a new contract as they want his £27,500-a-week salary off their wage bill.

But heis attracting plenty of interest from Championship sides and has received firm offers from Bursaspor and DC United.

Bursaspor have just beaten Fenerbahce to the Turkish title and will be playing in the Champions League next season.

MLS side DC United, meanwhile, are in a position to offer Harewood a decent salary

Good luck to him wherever he goes. Will be nice to have a Champions League team to follow next year, seeing as Villa, Clyde and Bilbao don't seem to want to qualify!

I agree with the sentiment. There’s no positive spin that can be put on selling your best player, no matter how much you get for him.

If it were to happen,  the club and some on here would spin it like Shane Warne.

Putting it like that Fletch, I almost want it to happen.

Unfortunately Maz, I think that's unfortunately EXACTLY how they rate him, and he'll be gone this summer.  £30m plus Ireland and I'd say we've got ourselves a deal.

Straight swap for Tevez and they pay 50% of Tevez wages.

Let's see how serious they are.

My view was  tell City  to piss off ... and that is what the Club have done this morning. Good.

Aston Villa have turned down Manchester City's £20m bid for their England international James Milner.

"We have received an offer from Manchester City for James Milner and this has been firmly rejected," said a Villa spokesman on Wednesday.

"We plan to sit down with James and his representative after the World Cup to agree a new long-term deal and this remains our position."

It's £30m no less or Ireland & Bellamy plus cash.  Otherwise no deal.
