I'm not worried also. I'll worry if Milner comes out and says he wants to move.

I think MON will tell them to do one, sparking a similar situation to Liverpool/Barry. This could drag on and on, with Sky Sports News braying and honking about Man City every step of the way.

Once you're in this cycle of selling your best players every summer you're not going to compete. makes you wonder what Lerner wants because if they don't get milner this summer,  you can bet someone will be back next year and we still won't be able to offer CL football

I agree with the sentiment. There’s no positive spin that can be put on selling your best player, no matter how much you get for him.

If he does, let's get him gone.  I can't face another season like Barry's last one, it does nothing for no-one.  It's £30m, take it or leave it.

Personally don't think he'll go to Citeh - no CL football,no guarantee of a regular place in the team, no guarantee of who'll be manager, the fact that buying lots of players doesn't necessarily guarantee CL for the next season, and he doesn't seem the mercenary type. What worries me is that SAF rather ominously said today that Manu would probably sign one player this summer - and if they came in with a similar bid, or cash plus say Carrick or Hargreaves (injured so ideal for MON), I could see Milner being more understandably tempted.

Let's hope that if the awful Carrick or the broken Hargreaves are thrown in then nobody else is tempted.

I think there's an awful lot of naivety going on.

It's easy to say money isn't important to him, or he's not the type to move for money but consider this.

He's probably on, what, 40k a week at Villa. Man City roll up and offer him, say, 140k a week, which they could easily do.

That's a pay rise of 5 million pounds a year.

Stick it in a five year contract and that's 33 million pounds they're offering him to go and work for them for five years.

I'd do everything i possibly could to make it happen if that were me, so why do we think players are any different? They're not Villa fans. Aston Villa is their employer, and very little (if anything) more.

I wouldn’t. If I wanted to leave I’d go and join Man United instead.

Where would staying at Villa rank in your options?

As Ads, pretty highly. As Milner? It depends how badly he wants to go from being very wealthy to incredibly wealthy.

Sadly its probably the later. I’d already have bought an orange Murcielago and a Veyron, while being in a position to holiday in Bora-Bora, therefore I wouldn’t be motivated about going to Citeh.

wise words mate and difficult to argue with, id pay £40k to play for the Villa if i had it and i wouldnt be that much worse than Sidwell or Downing. If they have decided they want him there is very little Villa can do except get the highest amount possible.

Trouble is we're so used to footballers paying lip service to loyalty and welching on huge contrcats that when a player comes along who seems to be concerned with the sport rather than the cash - training hard, living a quiet life, playing out of his skin and dealing with the game without malevolent interference from an agent - we're all kind of hoping that he lives up to those expectations and puts boots before cash.

But really, like Paulie says, there's nothing we can do if he decides moving on is the better option.
