I think Capello is proving he looks further afield for selecting players than the old Sven-Sky-Four days, so I wouldnt worry about that.  I also think (maybe naively) that he will appreciate the job MON has done for him, getting him to this position.

If I was James Milner I'd be thinking....

Can MON take us any further?
Do I want to cement my place in the England team?
Do I want to be playing the highest level of football with and against some of the best players around?
How many times in a short career do Manchester United come sniffing around?

If Man United made a bid and Milner thought along those lines, then I'd imagine he'd be off.

Who knows.

To that I'd say:

Milner has a great relationship with MON by all accounts.
Playing for England regularly doesnt require him moving.
He might believe there is more to come from Villa.
Fuck Man Utd.
The only way Milner would go anywhere is if Villa accept a massive bid. Which I cant see Man Utd making. Also, its up to Villa when/if he goes, not Milner.

Fair points Maz.

As much as I don't want too, I can see it happening. If not this summer, then maybe next.

Depends what kind of season we have. Who comes in etc.
At the moment this is just the most boringly predictable media shite you could imagine.

Hear hear, the sooner the World cup starts and the Lampard/ferdinand/Terry/Gerrard wankfest begin, the better.  That will fill the columns up

On another thread I suggested it'd be best for all if James Milner stayed here for at least another year and that we shouldn't sell for anything less than £30m.

However, if James wakes up each morning to see MON linked with the likes of Carlton Cole then I couldn't really blame him for wanting out.

I thought this was the summer that would prove MON has learned from his mistakes and that as others have said we need something different like passing ability, intelligence, eye for a goal to take us to the next level.

I hope some of those rumours are utterly false or it will be another very frustrating season under MON.

So Milner should want to leave because the press are linking us with Carlton Cole?

I don't think it's a signing that would be a statement of intent regarding champion's league football. I think an ambitious young central midfielder will stay with villa if he thinks we are as serious as Spurs, citeh etc of competing seriously for champion's league football and I'm sorry but Carlton Cole just points to more of the same.

Yeah but he's not going to leave because of a link that may have no truth in it at all.

This thread should probably be locked until the middle of August, we know nothing will happen until then.

If we sign Cartlon Cole, I'll eat my hat and the last season ticket I owned.

Surprised the Bentley stories havn't resurfaced by now. Not that we need him, but 'Arry must be looking to sell this summer surely?

He's a good player. If they arent looking for a fortune he'd be worth a look at.

Surely if he does not go this summer then he has to sign a new deal. wont he only have a year left?

Therefore we would have to sell on the cheap

I would love to see

Defender
M.Richard from ManCity. If we have to sell Davies. Anyway with Davies on duty we should be OK for the defender since L.Young can play on the left.

Midfield
R.Vander.Vaart is my 1st choice to play alone with Petrov.
SWP, Bentley and Joe Cole can give us the boost in but we already have 3 Attacking Midfielders.

Forward
Robinho is my prefer choice ahead of the like of C.Cole and Beckford. We need some clinical and player who can tern the game around.

For the player to sell
I would like to keep Curtis Davies, Nigel Reo-Coker, Steve Sidwell and Luke Young. This are quality player that need to make them shine. They all good we can apply rotation to make them familiar with field then they can deliver good quality.

I can't believe anyone would think Robinho would be a good buy.

He's a mentalist, for starters.

Dunno. If you consider he was basically rail-roaded into the citeh move, i'm not surprised he didn't settle. wages well above what we could afford anyway.

We would do well to get Van Der Vaart - he's become a key player for Madrid.
