I know this isn't the first time it's been mentioned on here, but I think O'Hara looks like a player who would be a good addition should NRC and/or Sidwell leave.

Yes, quite possibly or even Glen Whelan or Liam Lawrence from Stoke. They have been decent and made the upgrade to international football with relative ease.

They probably wouldn't be content warming the bench at villa though and I can't see Stoke wanting to sell.

I'm not sure if this is a joke or not.

Missed penalty or not, Boateng is the player to pick up from Portsmouth.

Mine was serious! I've never been convinced by Boateng's attitude, although I'm not sure where this prejudice comes from. Did he get sent off against us a couple of seasons back?

I like Boateng. When we were linked with him a year ago, no one hear would have pissed on him if he was on fire. But now, he looks decent.

O Hara was poor today but down to playing injured. He's been excellent this season though. I do think after the season he's had, Redknapp will happily keep him though.

Either mark an improvement over Sidwell. And long term probably Petrov.

I think Doyle would be a great signing, and an ideal partner for Gabby.

I would have agreed with you last year or the year before. However, I think at this stage of our development we need to go for better. We need to move beyond good, solid players and look at ones that will make people sit up and take notice. We need to move beyond our current level.

Spot on.

We were crying out for him in 2008, and would have much rather paid the asking fee back then (£8 million IIRC) than £3.5 million on Ivanhoe just a few months later.

But we need better now.

O'Hara has consistently looked good in a poor side. But I don't think we'll be doing any business with Tottenham this summer. We've constantly been linked with their players in the past -and they ours- but I get the impression O'Neill and 'arry just flat out don't get on.

Boateng looked good earlier in the campaign and if we are going to do our usual thing of minesweeping from relegated sides, he would be one of the better players in that bracket.

So you'd turn down Doyle but take Whelan or Lawrence? Jaysus. They've made the upgrade to international football because we (Ireland) have such a dearth of quality! I'd be surprised if they go on to play for a better club than Stoke for the rest of their career (do Celtic count?).

Doyle, has at least a bit of quality to him. Whelan, like Darren Gibson, has a good long-range shot on him but not much else. Lawrence is a trier like most of the Irish squad.

Don't think we should touch portsmouth players with a bargepole. They've already been picked clean of their better ones over the last year or so.

In general I'd agree Greg.

But Boateng would be better than some of the dross we'll hopefully be getting shot of this summer.

And not as good as the players we'll hopefully be signing.

I hope to fuck this is wrong, but I wouldn't put it past Martin 'UKIP' O'Neill.

Meanwhile, Fulham striker Bobby Zamora, 29, is an £8m target for Aston Villa and Everton. (the Sun)

trouble is  we're operating in a very limited market for a striker if MON follows his reputation

Drogba Chelsea 29
Rooney Man Utd 26
Bent Sunderland 24
Tevez Man City 23
Defoe Tottenham 18
Torres Liverpool 18
Adebayor Man City 14
Agbonlahor Aston Villa 13
Saha Everton 13
Berbatov Man Utd 12
Malouda Chelsea 12
Anelka Chelsea 11
Arshavin Arsenal 10

so knocking out the ones we can't afford, or wouldn't come that leaves us with Bent, Saha erm....  then we're in the 2nd tier of names like doyle and zamora. god i wish he'd go abroad.
