I'd snap your hands off for Keane of 4 yrs ago, but I have a feeling he's on the downward slope

Not saying you're right or wrong, but it's worth pointing out that quite a few of us, myself included, thought the same thing about Richard Dunne before we signed him!

I'm not sure if Keane is the man but he's certainly the type of player we need.

I agree Chris, although I have the usual reservations about Keane.  He's a very good player who offers something different, but his age is against him, he'd be on huge wages and he never seems to stay at one club for very long.  I think Lerner would be very wary about shelling out for a player like Keane.  I imagine Keane will probably stay at Celtic anyway, he can fill his boots in that league.

I wouldn't be so sure Celtic can afford him, fee and wages, without the CL money they won't be getting next season.  I'm pretty certain he'll leave Spurs though, so he's a strong possibility for us.  I'd agree about the age thing, so would only want him if the money is right and we've exhausted other younger options!

Keane would be alright but I'd sooner find a younger and potentially better version. Whoever that may be.

But if we get Keane, hey, I can live with it.

Luke Young has to stay really, travesty if he leaves and solely down to poor management as there aren't many full backs around who can slot into both positions well and I really don't want to see some of our transfer budget spent on full backs who'll never play.

Won't shed any tears if Davies leaves as imo Clark is ready to be fourth choice next season.

I dont know what to think about Young. I wonder if his head has been right after such a terrible time for him. I cant think of any reason to under use him so much and no "because MON is a twat" isnt going to wash.

He played well enough over Xmas.

Young-Cuellar-Dunney-Warnock was our back 4 when we kept 4 clean sheets in a row against Hull, Manure, Sunderland and Stoke.

I would take a guess that was our best defensive run of the season against a decent variety of opponents and imo our best back 4 although Collins has had a good end to the season.

Certainly don't want to see us spending 4-5m on another full back and then not having enough to get a quality striker or creative midfielder in.

If Cardiff don't go up I'd take Whittingham back, 24 goals from midfield this season is phenomenal.  Sold him for what £250k, then spent £12 mill on Downing, that was clever.

I'd take the current Whittingham over the current Downing in a heartbeat.

Even if Young is out of favour, I'd also like him to stay as he's a great squad/bench player to bring on and can cover both fullback positions.

I do think he'll go though, which is a shame!

If reports are to be beleived Young wants to return to London. He's a decent enough player but he's not that good that he's vital to our future.

But surely Beye and Shorey are off too, leaving us with just Warnock as a recognised full back.  What a strange scenario, 2 years ago we only had Bouma as a recognised full back then we stock up on another 4 of them, Young, Beye, Warnock, Shorey, then we probably go back to one again.  When he likes Carlos at right back and has Luke Young, why did M'ON sign 32 yr old Beye on £40k a week before the season.  Surely he could have got a good young player for cheaper wages as a third choice right back, like Spurs picked a couple up.

I hope he gets Clyne and maybe a player who can cover both positions. I do wish we'd get the fullback positions sorted once and for all.
I really rate Warnock, now get the right back sorted and let Carlos play centre half.

Maybe Clyne and Onouha or Micah Richards? Or maybe there's truth in the Manolev rumour.

I think our squad will be smaller next season, but hopefully with better options. IMO We can lose 4 full backs and bring in 2, let Davies go, as Clark is coming through, let Marlon and Heskey go and bring in 1 quality striker, let NRC, Sidwell, Ozzie, Salifou go and bring in 2 quality replacements, one who can play wide also.
