Agreed. He can't get off the ground to save his life. He fouls the defender every time in the box by pushing down on their shoulders.

Don't think so - apparently he's trying to sell Fulham, so cashing in all his assets by the looks of it rather than spending on football.  Unless of course another oil-rich sheikh comes in with mega bucks to spend in a trendy part of London....

SIDWELL: Wants to go to a London club

By Neil Ashton, 08/05/2010

STEVEN SIDWELL is on the verge of a cut-price move to Fulham after being told he can quit Aston Villa.

The midfielder has become increasingly disillusioned with life at Villa Park and will return to London in the summer.

Villa chief Martin O'Neill has made it clear he doesn't fancy a player he signed from Chelsea two years ago.

Although Sidwell's salary will cause Fulham a problem, they are hoping to sign him on a reduced deal from Villa.

Striker Andrew Johnson is Fulham's best paid player on £50,000 a week, but the club are reluctant to put others on a similar pay scale.

Sidwell has been commuting to Villa's training ground this season from his home in south London and wants a club in the capital.

Although West Ham is an alternative option, Hodgson has a knack of resurrecting careers.

Sidwell's has been at a standstill ever since he signed for Villa and he is desperate to get away after a frustrating spell in the Midlands.

Villa provide competition for midfielder
IRELAND: Sunderland target
By Garry Doyle, 08/05/2010

SUNDERLAND will offer Stephen Ireland a contract worth €20 million over five years.

Aston Villa are also chasing the Irish exile and are conscious he may be part of a swap-plus-cash deal with James Milner.

But Sunderland boss Steve Bruce wants a couple of marquee signings to boost his squad, with Ireland, 23, top of his list.

And Bruce is set to break the bank to get Ireland, presenting him with a deal worth just over €70,000 per week, making him Sunderland's best-paid player.

That accolade currently sits with Darren Bent, who earns €63,000 per week - but Bruce will pull out all the stops to get Ireland, who is available from Manchester City at a relatively cheap price of €6 million.

I wouldn't say no to Ireland in our squad. But if Sunderland want to pay him 70k a week they're more than welcome to the former syrup wearing fucker

Oh yeah, we’re going to swap Milner for Ireland.

Journalists and crack don’t mix.

€6m for Ireland? Just buy him and forget any swap deals. If Citeh won't do any business with us unless they get Milner then simply look elsewhere.

Good news if Sidwell is finally on his way, but what exactly is "cut price"?

Also these wages being quoted for average players has gone beyond a joke now.

Bit of a misquote there surely, he's been stood still since leaving Reading

Ireland should be an outright signing and straight away before Arsenal, United or Chelsea sign him. He is quality, and more importantly has the knack of scoring goals from midfield.

Bearing in mind we signed him for £5m, would £2m be a 'cut price' for Sidwell?  So, £4m plus £20k a week to upgrade Sidders to Stephen Ireland seems a good deal to me!

That's presuming these figures are right, which to be honest I doubt they are!

I would be happy with £2m for Sidwell, some you win , some you lose.

When we bought him, i thought he was a cracking buy, then he got injured and missed 3/4 mths, and he never seemed to pick up.He has'nt been as big a disaster as some on here think, but time for him to move on.

Ireland at £6m would be a good buy, and gibve us a kind of midfielder we don't have.Chuck in Onohua as well and i would be quite happy, although i can see it being linked to Milner.

Milner to Citteeeeh(sorry Dave), for Onohua and Ireland plus £15m?

Actually, I think Sidwell has been a worse disaster than some on here think...

I don't think Sidwell can work in a 2 man central midfield.

Along side Milner and NRC I'd imagine he'd be better in a middle 3.
