Heskey out, Forlan in to make up a striking pot of 4 with Gabby, Carew, Delfouneso

Forlan could be a good signing, but he looks happy in Spanish football and not sure if he'd return to PL.
Another player who caught my eye for Atletico the other night was Simao...keeps and uses the ball very well.

I think its hard to make a case for a striker whose already failed in English football, especially when he was getting service from the Man United midfield.

Then a year later we go and pay £6m instead of £4.5m (and they call MON a ditherer). To my knowledge, we've never been in for Tuncay.

Middlesbrough only paid £2.5m for Young.

I can't imagine for a second we would have been put off at that price.

He eventually went for that but we were being quoted more than that. I can't remember the exact figure, may have been £3.5m. Anyway, it was enough to put MON off even though he ended up paying more than he was originally quoted.

I dont understand why Tuncay is often mentioned. He's good but not really good which is why he plays for the likes of boro and then Stoke. He aint no Modic or kranjcar who is the sort of standard we need.
We need to go and hunt for a player of that standard or better.

Yeah Forlan obviously didnt do well at Man Utd but neither has Berbatov and quite a few want us to sign him on here despite his very poor form and missing sitters every week. One of my Man Utd mates said that Berbatov is suffering from Forlan syndrome which simply could be a combination of low confidence and high expectation.

With the exception of a one season, Forlans record since he left Man Utd has been quite prolific:

Villareal
2004–05: 38 apps    25 goals
2005–06: 47 apps    13 goals
2006–07: 40 apps    21 goals
Total: 125 apps    59 goals

Atlético Madrid
2007–08: 53 apps    23 goals
2008–09: 45 apps    35 goals
2009–10: 53 apps    25 goals
Total: 151 apps    83 goals

edit:
Last season he scored 32 league goals in 33 appearances winning the Europeam Golden Boot for the 2nd time. This season hes scored 17 league goals so far in 32 appearances.

Like I said, I dont think he'd want to return to PL, there are doubts over whether he could translate his form to PL, and I'm not even sure if he'd be affordable.

I'd say that he was comfortably the equal of Krancjar.

He's not as good as Modric, no. But that's why Spurs bought Modric for £16m and both Krancjar and Tuncay went for under £5m.

In Forlans defence, at Utd he never got a run. Or the chance to stick at it and right a few howlin misses.

Yep and last season he scored 32 league goals in 33 appearances...theres the kind of strike rate any club would want.

Ireland, Benayoun and Landon Donovan would be a start (the latter as a squad player).

Not sure who the new striker could be.

Anyone still got the stats for Savos spells in Spain. Wasn't he a golden boot winner a couple of times over there? Some players are better suited to certain leagues.

Yup.

Forlan has done very well over there, but the disparity from one league to the next which means that players frequently don't make the transition well is particularly acute when it is our league and the Spanish league

Obviously better than he did with us but not as good as Forlan and he didnt get any golden boots as far as I'm aware:

Savo

Goes without saying, the quality of opposition and team they play for has to be taken into account...but a prolific goalscorer is a prolific goalscorer whichever way you like to spin it, and you cant use the argument against players if so many ppl on here are demanding we have a better foreign scouting network.

Players like Tuncay are not going to improve the team, If we are to progress then we will need better players then him thats for sure.
