depends if you think hargreaves/carrick would have worked in a side with 2 wingers. i think it would have done, but hargreaves injury and ronaldo going changed fergie's plans

They've played 3 in the centre for most of this season.

I know. i'm saying his original intention when he bought carick was to play 2 in the centre, pre-hargreaves crocked/my little pony being sold. a bit like us now.

Nor sure I can see that as I think Carrick would be best in a 3.  In truth Fergie plays both ways so I would have thought he'd buy wioth that in mind!

Here goes, a bit extravagant but...

How's about putting all our eggs in one basket and going for Tevez (he appears unhappy at City).

For me he ticks all boxes:

1.  scores goals
2.  does a decent shift as a midfielder every game so would ease the burden on Petrov/Milner
3.  Can play in a 442 or 433/4231 should MON ever change his tactics

I'd guess it'd be pretty much all our transfer budget but...

Aye.

We could put all our eggs in one basket, rob the neighbours and do over a few industrial poultry farms whilst we're at it.

We still wouldn't have anywhere near enough for Tevez.

With a player like Tevez the fee is never the issue as much as getting them to come is!

Either way, it's not going to happen.

THe BBC rumours page the other day was suggesting Liverpool for £19m (not sure what the source was).

Sadly I think you're right Tevez would not come to Villa although my guess of a £30m fee could be within villa's reach.

Basically, I suppose what I am saying is I would like to see us *try* and sign him.  If he turns us down, like Sniejder allegedly did last year, then so be it.

Didn't Citeh pay something like £35 million for him in the end last year?

Their Player of The Season this year, they aren't going to looking for anything less than that figure. If fact, they'd probably want a lot more.

Much as i hate to agree with gn, Carrick has got a lovely pass on him, and is a better passer than Petrov. But like NRC, Carricks time has gone. The modern midfielder needs to have all attributes of pace, passing, mobility, and strength.......Milners, or Delphs if you like.NRC, has'nt got good enough control or passing, Carrick is too slow, thats why Fletcher is always his 1st choice in midfield.

Parker, or even better a younger version of Parker , is the kind of player we need.If not Parker, a Defour etc, would be ok.IF we get in the CL, then the young lad at Everton, or Sland might be worth a go.

Would'nt touch Tevez, too much, as stated yday, if the rumours are right, i think Adebayor might be worth a shout.

I've got no issue with us sticking our neck out and being ambitious, but just tinged with a little realism.

I was championing Parker before the last TF window as I thought he could have done a job for us in the second half of the campaign + would have given us more options (in theory at least) to rotate.

But we are running the risk of going the JG route if we get too many more older heads in. Namely, senior pros on large contracts with no resale value. It also means that when it comes to eventually replacing them, you're talking about wholesale changes.

Like Parker as a player, and if Wham had gone down and a realistic fee was set it could still have been a decent bit of business. But Pornodwarf and his gimps have made it clear they'll be looking to fleece any potential bidder on that one.

get rid of Heskey, Sidwell, Harewood, Shorey and Salifou.

Bring in

Parker
Keane ( a partnership of Keane and Gabby looks promising).

Think this would need a net spend of about 10 million pounds.

Think MON would like for a right back, he is def not happy with Young and Cuellar simply isnt a Right Back.

Common Sense signings which should take Aston Villa forward slowly but surely.

£47m, in fact. I don't care how well he's done, he hasn't justified that money.

As for cheeky bids for players, I wonder if we could get Aquilani. All players take time to adapt to foreign leagues, and his injuries have made it particularly difficult for him, but in the last few weeks he has looked back to the excellence of his Roma days. He moves intelligently, moves the ball quickly and in a way that forces others to move with him. He would be that tempo-dictating player that we lack and who would make us so much more potent in possession, his one- and two-touch play is so terrific. He also works surprisingly hard off the ball (might be his upbringing - Romans are a bit mad and have strong 'honour' notions in a lot of their culture). The only worries would obviously be: 1) would he come; 2) could we afford him (wages almost certainly, transfer fee is a bit dodgy with payments still due from Liverpool to Roma); and 3) is his injury situation one that can be cleared up.

After spending £25 million on him last summer, I doubt they'll be looking to sell. Not at the type of huge reduction that would put us in the market anyway.

Seen him at the game at VP, and wasn't hugely convinced. Got into good positions, but used the ball poorly. Any other time I've watched him for the Redscouse he has been peripheral, doesn't look like he can influence the game outside of a few nice touches in non threatening areas.

The general consensus up there is they have a far inferior player to Alonso and that has been a big part of the reason for their struggles. Hard to pin it all on a guy who has been largely injured and then playing catch up fitness-wise, I agree.

But I'd say if he's going anywhere it will be back to Italy (or possibly Monaco), rather than another English side.

Carrick is a big no no for me. Fletcher, Gibson and even an ageing Scholes seem to get picked more often than him now.

Dorrans is an interesting one. Looks like he's got a lot of quality and whoever takes a gamble might be getting a very good player.

I'd love Olic from Bayern, but so would a lot of teams i suppose. Like Milner, he's another player who never stops running.
