I think he'd really work well, not least because he does work hard off the ball. I could envisage a Villa team where Petrov and Gabby act as the pivots, so to speak, with a freakin' whirlwind going on around them with Downing, Milner, Young and Hleb. Given how hard all of those players work, that would be both the most attacking and most defensive front six in the league!

Rodallega tends to score in the big games for Wigan.

Winner against last week, that cracker against us on the opening day, scored against Chelsea when they won 3-1 and against Manure last season.

So I certainly think he has the potential to play for someone much better than Wigan so would have him as a target.

If he didn't mind bench time, Rodellega would be ideal. A match turner. I think scrappy games can pass him by, as can the ones when he's not really up for it. But he's got ability.

Much as I'd like to see us sign the mythical top class 15-20 striker, I don't see who's available, and willing to come to VP. An up and comer, looking for a first big move, like Rodders would be what we're looking at.

In all honesty, wouldn't mind N'Zogbia too, to push Ash and Downing for a wide berth. I think both players will move from Wigan in the summer.

N'Zogbia has been excellent for Wigan this season, always rated him.

In fairness with Milner needed for central midfield, we've only got Young and Downing as out and out wingers with Albrighton not given a proper chance so some competition wouldn't go amiss.

No to Carroll and no to Bellamy.

Judging players on goals scored in the Championship is always dicey and it's not as if Newcastle will let him go for £2.5- 3 million (his realistic value at this stage).

If he bags 10-15 next year for them and looks competent at this level we could look again. Yes the price might be higher (but again, they're not going to let him go for a song this summer) but we'd be getting more of a known quantity.

Bellamy is about 18 months away from the knackers yard with a chronic knee issue. It might be the kind of thing that could be tolerated for the right player, either a defender who reads the game well (McGrath) or a forward who plays the traditional target man role. But for a player whose game relies on pace and movement it's an expensive accident waiting to happen, when you factor in the fee and wages involved. The amount of games he's completed since his move to West Ham way back in 2007 is pretty lousy.

Chamakh is gettable and a stereotypical 'MON type player'.

A striker who only scores one game in four?

Chamakh's looked good in the champions league from what I've seen.

Think Arsenal have got him for next season anyway.

Kirkland and Rodallega, maybe Kevin Doyle, but not for silly money.

.

I'm not just judging him just on goals scored in the championship. I'm judging him on his overall game and how it would fit in with ours, plus how he could improve, his physical attributes, attitude. Everything. For the same reason I wanted Darren Bent in very similar circumstances.

And waiting until he's proven himself in the Premier League is foolish. Not only does it then cost you a fortune but it invites lots of competition.
If you see a player who can fit the bill, go for it and trust your instincts. Its not like you're risking everything on it either.

And you're miles off on his value as well. England Under 21 striker, one of the hottest properties in the Championship, 2-3m? You'd be rightly laughed at before they put the phone down on you. If he went now he'd cost minimum £6m. If he scored 10-15 goals in the Premier league you could double it at least. It makes a big difference.

Case in point: Darren Bent. Charlton got him for £3m back in 2004 or something? (Newcastle would be asking a lot more now), he gest to the Premier League, proves himself and cost Spurs £17m. Delph will prove to be money well spent and he cost £6m from a League 1 side.

The more we save on getting these players when they're young, the more we have to spend on other top players. You cant wait until they're all proven can you? That sounds like a costly business to me. Too costly for us in all likelihood.

I dont know what to think about him. He's looking ace but he might be one of these players that just finds a home and comfort zone at a particular club and if moved, loses it all and looks like the donkey everybody assumed he was.

We could be singing the Dean Martin song weeks after signing him.

I've bought Scott Parker, Hleb and Rodallega on fifa 10, and am currently top of the league. That's all I'm saying.

You could say exactly the same thing about Carlton Cole!

I've just traded Jason Scotland for Landon Donovan in my Fantasy team. I also play Cuellar at CB and Luke Young at right back in it.
