well Milner felt that the deal was close to collaspe yesterday.

he knew nothing what was going on between the two clubs with fees and player exchange etc..... he just has this feeling..

so If it was to do with Ireland not wanting to come here , then why didnt Man shitty  just pay the fee we were asking for..   or maybe he did want to come , but shitty still was not offering enough money with the player..

of course they might still come back ..

Hopefully find out more later....

MIlner and Ash will be at Villa park this season. Ash has clearly stated he would sign a new contract. And Man City wont up the price especially now Ireland is going nowhere. Even if Milner wont sign a new contract, we would still get a great season out of him and 15-18m next season for him ..........

Its like loaning him for another 10 million a season...    ;-c

Just wish the fookers would pay what we want... im starting to despise them ..      If I was Milner, you dont think Im worth it shitty , so Ill sign for Villa for 70k ...

Right then, time for a little game, mainly as I can't be arsed to do any proper work on a Friday afternoon.  Taking into account Milner staying and it genuinely being a sell to buy policy, what transfer moves would you make with a zero net spend?  Trying to use approximate values as seen in the various rumours:-

Sell
Davies - £6m
Sidwell - £3m
Heskey - £2m
Beye - £1m
Shorey - £2m
Total - £14m
I'd persuade NRC and Young to stay on the promise of more game time.

Buy
Keane - £6m
Bentley - £8m
Total - £14m

You promote from within to replace Davies, Beye and Shorey.  Extra options are created by the two players bought and NRC and Young can help address other problematic areas.

I think we'd be looking pretty decent with that sort of outcome!

Very, very worrying. I'd kind of banked my whole season on Ireland coming. Can I switch to misery now?

No, you just conclude that means we're getting Stephen Defour instead.

Still not enough in midfield for me.

Maybe Parker (or someone better) instead of Bentley?

On the bright side it would slash the wage bill.

I too was desperately keen on Ireland. Ho hum.

I'm actually relatively miserable about that. The more and more I thought about it, the clearer it was that Ireland is what will move us forward more than Milner. We're so lacking in creativity it's barely even funny.

whoever we sign will get off to a slow start and then MON will be saying about how next year they'll have a "full pre-season under their belt and be a different player"......pah

They will have had a full pre-season, just not with us. The problem with Downing is that he didn't kick a ball until October.

So our small squad would see 5 out and 2 in ?  If it is a sell to buy policy then the only way we can significantly improve is by selling Milner and I think O'Neill knows this.

That's the thing - our squad isn't small and hasn't been since the end of the last summer window.  With the emerging youth players, I think we can comfortably afford a net loss of three players.

I wasn't on about Downing but I'm sure almost every player signed (not exclusively by us) has this said about them

Really? I've only heard it about Downing because of the injury.
