There's a select group of Prem sides, who I'd put money on making an offer for Heskey. Blackburn would be one of them. I think he'll end up there, Stoke, Bolton, or back at Wigan.

Just as long as we don't have him anymore.

Indeed. He is the nearest Fat Sam can find to Kevin Davies to build his Bolton MK2 side.

This better be on the level. I've just gone to uncork my best champagne.

Glasgow Herald

AIDEN McGEADY’s move from Celtic to Aston Villa took a step closer yesterday after Martin O’Neill, the Villa manager, admitted he will allow James Milner to join Manchester City.

As Herald Sport revealed this week, Milner and McGeady’s futures are linked. Villa have demanded £30m for the England midfielder, City have offered £20m. A compromise of £25m is expected to be reached without difficulty, and Milner will likely sign as soon as he returns from holiday next week. That will trigger a series of transfers: McGeady and Tottenham’s Robbie Keane to Villa, and Liam Lawrence from Stoke to Celtic.

O’Neill would not confirm his interest in McGeady yesterday, but left reporters at a pre-season press conference in Dublin in little doubt of his admiration for the winger.

“I think Aiden McGeady has the ability to play in the Premier League, without question,” said the former Celtic manager. “I had him as a kid at Celtic and played him without worrying too much about his youth.

“He played against AC Milan one night in the Champions League at Celtic Park and he was absolutely fantastic.

“We have been linked with an awful lot of players and I would expect that because we are a top quality Premier League side.

“There’s no point in me mentioning names but, without wanting to lose players of the calibre of Milner, we would want to try to recruit some players.”

McGeady has three years of his contract to run at Celtic, but is understood to have decided that now is the right time to try to make his mark in England. Villa are not the only club from the Premier League interested, but it is believed they are the 24-year-old’s first choice.

Regarding Milner, O’Neill admitted: “James and his agent came to see us before the World Cup and intimated that they would like to go. Then Manchester City made the offer, which we told them about. There is a difference of valuation at this moment between the buying club and the selling club. That may well be resolved and if that is the case, then absolutely fine.

“I think James’ agent has told our chief executive that he wouldn’t be signing a new contract. Obviously that puts a different slant on things, like everything else. If a fee is agreed, the player can leave.”

Meanwhile, Celtic have been linked with Israeli midfielder Biram Kayal, 22, with Israeli reports quoting a fee of €1m.

Defensive midfielder Kayal, who has 10 caps, plays for Maccabi Haifa. Their president was quoted as saying: “There is indeed interest from Celtic in Kayal, but they are not the only team interested.”

My cousin's Sister-in-Law runs the Fried Chicken & Kebab Emporium (halal by the way) in Nuttall street (just by Ewood Park) and she said Heskey popped in for a Chicken & Chips meal (99p by the way) on Thursday and said  he'll be popping  in regular in future. (More regular than his goals)

99p! I'll move up there as well, I think!

I've just heard the Heskey to Blackburn story from my niece's boyfriend as well, who has a friend who knows Big Sam. I'm not making this up.

Is this one of those 'sounds likely so it's true' things, like MON being interested in anyone who's ever pulled on a Celtic jersey or that Steven Gerrard thing?

I must admit, I'd quite like to see a nasty bastard who can play in our midfield. I'm thinking Roy Keane rather than Martin Taylor.

What the Roy Keane that admitted to deliberately breaking Alf Inge Haaland's leg! At least Taylor did it by accident.

I think Witsel is somewhere in between the two. I'd get him in a hearbeat!

I'll have the same sauce as he's been having! A match made in Heaven: Fat Sam and his performing donkey, they'll be huge away at Blackpool.

What? You and Tim were still Heskey apologists the last I heard.
