I reckon Keane would score 15+ easy cos if Jimmy goes he will take the pens. We may lose a few from midfield tho

That's a good point.

If he's here for 3 yrs he will be be our top scorer each season- I have no doubts about that.

Whilst we're talking about Keane, does anyone know how many of his goals come from the penalty spot?

If you take those goals away, I think his stats will look considerably worse.  Probably comparable with Gabby's.

It's a "no" from me.  I think he's past his best personally and will basically just mean we'll be looking for another striker in 1, maybe 2 seasons.

A caveat to the above is if the other option is Calton Cole or Kanoute...  I'd like to think MON would and can spread his net a little wider.

My thoughts entirely.

If Villa were not to sign Keane, where would he end up?

I reckon Jol would take him to Fulham and he'd end up being a "why weren't we in for him!?" type signing.

Even if he is our penalty taker the evidence of past seasons suggest 15 goals or so. That is a respectable total I would be happy with. However, it is the same as Gabby got last season. Now Gab has improved each season so I would bet that Gabby would score more.

If Liverpool are skint, not in the Champions League and Hodgson is only a "steady the ship" type, how come they've signed Joe Cole?

Because they were willing to pay his frankly ridiculous wage demands as I suggested earlier.  To pay anyone who's been out with so many injuries in the last 2-3 years 90k a week for 4 years is asking to be on the receiving end of a winding up order.

The owners don't care because they're only planning on paying his wages for the next 6-12months at the very most.

My thoughts exactly! Anyone who pays the injury prone Cole £90k a week wants shooting anyway!!

I'm happy for Keane to join us. However my worry would be that he will end up like  Angel, ie too good for us, in that  these players all had footballing brains, and unfortunately they will/did play with total footballing no-brainers. I can not imagine gabby having the intellegence to run onto the many through balls that Keane can supply at will.

I think Keane's worth a gamble at 6-8m.

Issue I have is anything above 8m and the feeling he's past his best now.

But he can't and won't be worse than Heskey as he'll score a few against the weaker teams so I'll bite the bullet on this one at that price.
