I bought the VHS box set in Cooperstown in 1998 and then had to lug it around for the rest of my trip.

That series was the inspiration for my interest in the Negro Leagues. I've now got dozens of books, several autographs and photos. I also met the man who started it all for me, Buck O'Neil on two occasions.

More evidence of time travel

In a still from recently revealed 1920's film of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig can be seen in the background talking on a mobile phone

Miggy signs a $244m extension, making his deal worth $292m

Nice work if you can get it

Angels hook their Trout for 6 seasons at $144m

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/story/_/id/10692095/los-angeles-angels-mike-trout-agree-six-year-extension

A nice insurance policy for Trout in case injuries derail his HOF destined career. He could have gone year to year with the Angels and then have been looking at $40m per season in free agency.

2 games in for the Cubs and their record is 0-2, they lost the first game 1-0 in ten innings on Monday then the second game they lose 4-3 in sixteen (16) innings during the longest ever game in Pittsburgh. I don't know whether to laugh or cry!

I fell asleep during game two last night.   I can't really talk to the Cubs, but the Pirates are going to struggle this year if they have to keep grinding results out again.   0 runs in the first 9 innings of game 1 and 2 runs last night in the first 9 innings is not a recipe for the playoffs.

Watched some baseball last night and just about followed it. Couple of things I'd like clarified, apologies if they sound idiotic. When the pitcher throws a "ball" ie not a strike, am I right in thinking after a certain number the batsman gets a free pass to first base? Also the losing team were 2 runs short with 2 outs in the 9th, if the next batsman had hit a home run would he have been sensible to stop at 3rd base in order to try and get 2 runs later or do you take any run you can get? Thanks.

After 4 "balls" the batsman gets a "walk" to first base.

You'd take the run and take the game into extra innings.

But they were 9-7 down and the home run would only have taken it to 9-8?
