I am not sure why anyone is mad that a freaking baseball manager has a different political opinion than they do.  He isn't an elected official.  He's a freaking manager of a baseball team.  People need to get a f@#$ing grip on this one...

Praising Castro in Miami is like praising Bin Laden in the rest of the country.

As mentioned by Tony Kornheiser on PTI, exiles from Cuba view Castro in the same way as people view Hitler and you can't go around praising him.

If the Marlins are to survive, they need the monetary support of the Cuban ex-pat population in Miami.

I know that Guillen has proven himself to be a winning manager but one of the main reasons that he was hired was in order to make the Marlins more appealing to the Latin population of Miami.

Instead its taken him less than a week of the season to alienate a large group of them.


Movin' on...................... attendance in Oakland is looking awful. They've announced just over 10,000 for the last couple of games but no way was there that many people there.

The A's need to be out of Oakland asap.

So while I was in Florida, I wasn't able to watch ANY of the yankees sox games, which sucked... until I saw the scores!!


But I was able to go to the new Marlins park.

WOW!

just... I don't even know what to say.  WOW!

It is insane.  I love the new Yankee Stadium.  Love it to death.  But Miami REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLY raised the bar with this one.

I would post pics here, but I don't know how and I am too lazy to figure it out right now, so maybe later.

But it is IMPRESSIVE.

It is VERY Miami, which could be a turn off for some fans, especially the more traditional northeast fans.

But a few things I noticed:

1) There wasn't as a large a hispanic turnout as I thought there would be, maybe about 1/3, which means they are missing a LARGE demographic of the area.

2) They were playing the Cubs and it was a night game.  I assumed it would be over 50% Cubs fans, because despite being terrible, I consider them one of the larger floating fanbases.  It wasn't.  There were a lot of Cubs fans, but I would put it at around 10-15%.  I saw a TON of Marlins hats, shirts, jerseys, etc.  Especially with the younger kids, which shows a lot of hope for the team.

3) The stadium looks empty on TV, but it is pretty freaking full.  I would say 3/4 of the staidum was full (very small stadium, like 37k, similar to Fenway in capacty), but it is VERY open, and there is a lot of area to "be in" (like Yankee stadium).  So while it looks empty, it is more of a sense of people just not in their actual seats.  There are bars (girls all over), TV and large screen areas (with more girls all over) and eating areas (with you guessed it, even more girls) so many people just don't sit. 

4)  I have never seen a collection of better looking women anywhere in the United States.  It was almost absurd.  My 4 year old son looked like a puppy, just STARING at every girl he saw, which was very amusing, since he is 4.  It wasn't as amusing to see older rednecks doing the same thing....
