I used to enjoy their commentary, especially in the early days of C4 coverage. Despite at the time being new to the game, for the most part I could follow what they were on about. I reckon that they, and of course the legend that is Todd Macklin, are a big reason baseball got a decent following in this country.

Todd & Johnny were the best pairing on Five's baseball coverage, even if they did get my name wrong when they did a feature on me back in 2000.

Are you sure after one season?  I don't think Youk will go anywhere, but I thought Beltre was a good signing, so it's hard to see him going so soon.

Beltre is a free agent and is looking for more in terms of money and years that the Sox are willing to offer to a player in his early thirties.

He took a one year deal in Boston last off-season in preference to a multi-year deal from the A's

Despite yet another change in its make up the Hall of Fame "Veterans Committee" remains a joke.

I've no problem with Pat Gillick being elected. He did a great job as a General Manager, especially with Toronto and Philly.

I can make a case for not electing "The Boss" but I thought that he'd get in. My real complaint is the ongoing failure to elect Marvin Miller.

Voting from the Veterans Committee for induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame (12 of 16 votes needed for election):

An outfield rotation of Crawford, Jacoby Ellsbury, JD Drew and Mike Cameron looks pretty good on paper

Add to this, the presence of A-Gon and things are looking pretty good in Boston.

However, as always, it'll be how the starting pitching performs that matters most
