One think that I like about Jeter is that he didn't make the mistake than many sports superstars do; that is getting married at an early age. With all the time on the road and temptations available, its not surprising that athlete's marriages get into trouble.

Jeter however has has his pick of some of the USA's (actually, the world's) top babes over the years without the fear of alimony. He also appears to be going about his business in a "safe" manner (something that the likes of Shawn Kemp and Travis Henry failed to do)

As I said earlier.................. jealousy

In all honesty, Jeter is just Classy.

At least as much so as a professional athlete can be.

But one thing I have noticed, especially with the whole Eck thing, is how different we view rivals here.

As a Yankee fan, I was overjoyed with the Damon signing.  I mean why? He was past his prime, had no arm, his bat had struggled... BUT he was the pride and joy of the sox fans.  I wanted him in pinstripes BAD. (he prove to be a very good yankee anyway)

Just like when the news hit that the sox had been trying to get Mo, and it didn't work out.  Every sox fan I know was like "DAMN!"  Not as much because they really wanted him, but more because it is taking the pride of the yankees fans and putting him into an away shirt with a name on his back.

There is nothing better than the back and forth between players, and the love/hate/love that it causes.
Maybe it is different, because we don't live as close to each other as you guys do (I don't get any Boston stations here, just Hartford and New Yotk), but still, I love that stuff...

Boston 1, Tampa 0

16 innings in 5 Hours 44 minutes

The Sox really are making a habit of late finishes this season. (I was at their 2:45am finishing game in Boston and their 2am finishing game in the Bronx)

Do we have any Seattle Mariners on here ?

If so, wtf has happened to your team ?

15 losses on the trot with games to come against the Yankees & Rays. This string of losses could easily get to 20+

I was in NYC yesterday, the billboards were awash with Jeter 3000 stuff, I had no idea what it was all about until I watched ESPN last night, had a quick read of this & Google'd Derek Jeter.

So from what I can gather he has only ever played for the damned Yankees, started his career in MLB in 1995 & is the first Yankee ever to reach 3000 hits.  So in 16 seasons, 162 games per season thats 2592 games he could have played in.  With 9 innings in each of those 2592 games thats the opportunity to hit the ball some 23328 times assuming the ball was pitched at him only the once, which is highly unlikely so lets give him the benefit of the doubt and say it was twice making the 'opportunity' 46656 times to hit the ball.

Jeter hit it 3000 times out of a possible 46,656.

Bit crap really isn't he?

Crap ? No

Overrated ? Definitely (especially on defense)

"Hits" and "batting average" are archaic measures of success anyway

The best part of Derek Jeter is that if you walked up to him and said this stuff to his face, he wouldn't punch you like 99% of other athletes, he would just shrug his shoulders and say "yeah, I guess maybe I am overrated", then put his arm around Minka Kelly and walk away.

Is he as good as he was 5 years ago? No.
I just don't get why you should hold that against him...

Bottom Line, He has over 3,000 hits.
He has been (and I HATE this word, but it is true) CLUTCH in the playoffs.
Is just a good guy in a league with a lot of jerk offs.

Bottom line, I am happy he is a yankee, and when my 4 year old swings a bat in the street, I am glad he pretends to be Derek Jeter.

::End serious emotional rant here::

But I have to be honest, I know he's only 3 and a half, but he's no Jeter.  His swing sucks.  He looks more like Kevin Yuklis the way his little hands hold the bat.

Watched the Yankees game downtown last night, the Mariners went down again in the Bronx, 17 losses on the trot now, probably 18 by the end of this evening.

That CC fella doesn't exactly look like an athlete but was very effective.

Apparently CC used to date Serena. Can you imagine how strong/big their kids would have been ?
