On his day Bosnich was one of the best in the world. He made the best save i've ever seen in the cup defeat against Coventry. And i'm still bitter that we weren't awarded a penalty in that game.

I remember it well, though to be fair to our unfortunate cousins they absolutely murdered us and Bossie kept us in it.

Bosnich was frighteningly good at Villa. He ticked all of the boxes.

What about not being able to put a goal kick over the halfway line?

I don't recall that being a continuous trait of his at all. Sounds like a bit of a myth.

Sorry to have to say it but it was a trait of his and I had many an argument with people who said that his other skills outweighed his weakness at taking a goal kick. Get a few videos out and see for yourself.
Didn't Rimmer also have an issue with his kick outs though? I still say Rimmer.

Bosnich for me.

He had that arrogance that made me feel that if he was in goal then the opposition had no chance of scoring.

I remember going up to Sunderland during the League cup run 94. We got absolutely battered, Bosnich had a worldy we had 4 shot and won 4-1

Bozzie for me as well, though his kicking was poor,he made saves that were really unbelievable at times, the best shot stopper ive ever seen. To be fair,Guzan reminds me of him a little, could easily be our No.1 for a while.

Close call but anyone who can come into a European Cup final and keep Bayern out for 80 minutes and help us win the thing gets my vote all day long.

Jimmy Rimmer was an absolutely superb goalkeeper, amazing how many good keepers England had in that era, not sure why Clemence was chosen ahead of him mind,

It's sad how bare the larder is now in the goalkeeping department compared to 30-35 years ago. Joe Hart aside, we've had no-marks like Rob Green and Scott Carson playing for their country. Rimmer was in a long queue of excellent English keepers which included Shilton, Clemence, Joe Corrigan and Phil Parkes.

It has probably been posted already but I was leafing through a book on Premier League era legends and the villa nomination was Bosnich.

When you think about it they made a compelling case. Bosnich was there playing a crucial role as we both won our only two major trophies since '82 and were quite regularly a top six side. He was widely acknowledged as one of the best 'keepers in the business while at villa and things didn't work out too well for him after he left.

I will look for the book again as I literally just picked it up for a few minutes but they did make some good arguments for Bosnich being our legend of the Premier League era. He did win two medals with us and was in top form for most of that period when we did well with him as our number one and were usually in or around the top six.

I would say Bosnich then Rimmer. But the best goalkeeper play for Aston Villa is Friedel and Schimechel but they are past their prime when playing for Villa.

Bosnich on his day was unbelieveable.

That save v Coventry I have never see a  better one at Villa Park. And the one when Hughes smashed it in the League Cup Final which would have been an equaliser (IIRC) was fantastic.

Spink was incredibly consistent - many older than me say Rimmer was even better.

Rimmer no longer qualifies as his last game was over 30 years ago. So Bosnich for me now.

Surprised there's no Graham Mosely, Jimmy Cumbes or John Phillips in the poll ;)

I know it's just over 30 years now but I would just give it to Jimmy Rimmer  with bosnich 2nd and Spink 3rd
