A friend of mine is a big Streatham Redskins fan. He is easily the strangest person I know

Haven't been to ice hockey for years. I used to in the mid 90s occasionally go  to see Manchester Phoenix at the MEN Arena. At the time they were regularly pulling in crowds in excess of 5000.

It was generally good entertainment and I saw one or two cracking matches. However, as a spectator if ultimately lacked the all-consuming 'life-style' that is football and I can't say I shed any tears when Phoenix went bust.

I thought it was good entertainment for the about 20 minutes or so, soon got bored though.

Highlight of the evening was at the end when they announced that Cov had lost 2-0 to Cardiff in the football, I was the only one in there who found it rather amusing  \:D/

D&D, ice hockey has a whole thread of its own if you're interested.

I used to be a regular at Cardiff Devils games but the travelling got too much for me (especially the post-Villa game dash to Cardiff for a 7pm face-off).

I now mainly just go to games when Cardiff are playing in Coventry after a Villa home game.

Ice Hockey in the UK is great entertainment. You just need to recognise that its not a very high standard (although I understand that the Devils have just signed an ex-NHL player).

PS - could a MOD please merge this thread with the main NHL/Elite League one. Thanks

my friend goes all the time to the Guildford Spectrum Leisure Centre to watch the local team and often follows them to away games. He loves it.

sadly my knowledge of it is confined to NHL 1993 on the megadrive!

I was a Mario Lemieux Hockey man myself, but all of my Ice Hockey 'Knowledge' also comes from the Megadrive.

I was surprised at the pace of the game, they really move some don't they!

I can't deny that for entertainment value it was a good evening, I was just expecting some high scoring game with lots of goals and fights (like it used to be when I played on the Megadrive) but it was a 1-1 draw last night. That said I am planning to go again soon when England play Jamaica in a friendly at the coventry skydome.

Your 2008-09 Stanly Cup Champions are.................

Sidney Crosby and The Pittsburgh Penguins

Sis is the youngest captain to lift the trophy. You can tell he's young by the complete failure that is his attempt to grow a playoff beard.

Well done to them. I like that the Stanley Cup is presented to the winning team's captain rather than the owner which usually seems to be the case for North American sports.

That's the only way a Canadian is going to win the Stanley Cup nowadays- ship him out to Pittsburgh.

That'll teach him for letting in a goal

&hl=en_US&fs=1&">
&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340">

(NB - it was accidental. The Player was trying to smack his stick into the goal not his team-mate)

EDIT - Or maybe it wasn't accidental. ESPN analysts are suggesting that the player's apparent lack of concern for the goalie (ie he skates off rather than checking the guy is OK) could mean it was deliberate
