Not long after his stint with Bolton, he couldn't get a club (or so it was reported). That in itself was quite sad I thought. After his death his sister's (and Iranian's wife) antics must have made an intolerable situation even worse for his immediate family.

With the likes of Merson and Hendrie around then, we did seem to have a number of players with serious issues off the pitch.

I won a competition in the Sports Argus to attend the end of season player awards in the Holte Suite mid 2000's. The rest of the table were competition winners as well , our player was Jlloyd and his partner. She told my wife the story that he told her, he was an Estate Agent before admitting he was a football player. He came across a very shy character ( although the programme would suggest otherwise) , she was very confident and engaged more with all us strangers far better than Jlloyd. He rang my son up though when I gave him my mobile and made his night.
It's quite a sad and unbelievable chain of events , you really couldn't make it up. RIP Jlloyd

I was at at that table! I accompanied a friend who was fan of the year. Jlloyd was lovely, not at all like you expected a footballer to be. A pleasure to be with.

It’s crazy how many ex Villa players have died before their time or tragically - Dalian, Ugo, Jlloyd, Cyrille.

Whittingham was a shock too.

No sympathy from me - pissed up, over twice the legal driving limit, fortunately no one else was hurt, in the van that he crashed into.
