I remember it well... but unfortunately mainly for the wrong reasons.  It was the first of two occasions that season when I was involved in a really bad crush (the second was in the League Cup Quarter Final at Upton Park).  The policing that afternoon was crass and unresponsive - until eventually, belatedly they allowed some Villa fans into that empty section of terrace by the far corner flag.  But, hey, of course it was then still okay for the police to treat football fans like that... Hillsborough didn't happen until the April.

I was at that game.  If I remember correctly the United owner/chairman whoever he was commented afterwards that it was the best away support he'd seen and heard.  We had loads there that day.

Brilliant day out. Yanited fans in K stand thought it would be fun to throw fireworks at us....I was in the middle behind the goal and didn't hear anything from the 'famous' Stretford End all game - our support was incredible that day.
Remember the thick fog on the way back.....went up with a nutter called Jamie from Worcester who thought it fun to drive at about 80 through it. Also passed the Villa coach on the way back.

On our last visit there we only took about 300 or so. It was our last game in the top flight after the disastrous Billy McNeill/Graham Turner campaign. I think we lost 3-1, and despite some gallows humour, it was all fairly depressing. So going back there in such numbers, and while we only grabbed a draw, at the time it felt like a massive statement, 'Villa are back!'

Shame about the tossers sitting above us chucking coins at us, while the cops just stood and watched (when they weren't chucking us out)

From a time when Man Utd was one of the cheapest places to visit as an away fan , think it was about £4-£5 on the gate that day .

I was at the last game of he relegation season in May 1987 and we took thousands. I think we were very conscious of the fact we had been on a downward spiral for a while and may not be back at grounds like OT quickly. Luckily it was only for one season.

A reasonable number of old C Crew in the stand to the left as well.

We were on a Premier Entertainments coach coming back from Manchester in all that fog, watching a video of The Lost Boys. I don't think I've watched it since. It wouldn't be as good without the fog.

Was this the Bonfire Night/Day game?

I remember being crammed into the Scoreboard End and Man United fans fired a couple of rockets into our end but a few of them went over us and hit their own fans above us. We went to the Hacienda afterwards and I bumped into Bernie from New Order - still got the photo of me and him somewhere, me complete with daft "curtains" haircut....

I was in the stand to your left - that was an awful time for us - I think we were 3-0 down and scored a very late consolation and the supporters celebrated as though we'd scored a late winner - the support, as usual at away games throughout the years was superb that day and we heard you loud and clear in the main stand on the half way line.
