Perhaps he'd decided to bring them on and indicated this to the fourth official just before they scored and it was too late to change the decision?

You can change your mind right up to the point where both players to be swapped are over the touchline.
Imagine if you have one sub left, have indicated you are swapping strikers and your keeper suddenly twists an ankle, you can change your sub.

Why did he need to rest anyone? They can't play 3 games in a week? What a load of bollocks.

I could understand him resting one of the three Downing/Ash/Albrighton  combo , but all of them .

And then bringing two of them on with 20 minutes left and us 3 goals down.

That to me is probably the most baffling aspect of the whole evening... with his team selection GH had decided we had no chance then with 20 minutes to go and 3-0 down he decides to play his regular first team players... what the f**k is that all about!

Just remembered another depressing element about last night, this was shown on the big screens at half time:

Fails on the following points:
1) Use of the phrase "the beautful game"
2) Referring to football clubs by their nicknames
3) Use of the word "footie"
4) Looking like Colin Murray

Correct Dave, the sustitution isnt made until the player has entered the FOP. Which is why its 1 on, 1 off, in other words the player coming on cant enter until the player coming off leaves the pitch. Until that happens, the manager can change his mind, and alter it.

You can change your mind right up to the point where both players to be swapped are over the touchline.

So to sum up; if we'd played a full team last night and lost and then played basically the same side at Bolton and lost  again everyone would be really happy.

You do post some arse at times Smudger!

All any fan wants is for their team to give their all in every match, and as part of that we want the manager to pick a team capable of competing.
In your desperate attempt to defend Hotlips' frankly disgusting decision you are making it look like you condone treating the FA Cup as a second rate competition, is that correct?

Which brings me on to another of my pet subjects, the FA Cup is a second rate competition judging by the number of people who bother to turn up for games. Everyone on here claims to love it more than they love their own mothers (exaggeration for comic effect before anyone gets touchy) yet attendances tell a different story.

However, my point is that for Hotlps and his boss staying in the PL is a thousand times more important than getting to a cup final to be dicked by Manu again. I might not think the same but it's not my money or my job on the line.

I was too angry to post last night but I have now run out of things to smash.

I am just sitting in my pants with snot running down my face, surrounded by small pieces of crockery.

I am OK about it now.
Now that made me laugh long and loud. Thank McGrath for posters like Damon :D

I understand what he was trying to do - I think everyone can work out that he was resting players for the league - I just think he went way, way too far. Not to mention then throwing Walker, Young and Downing on for the last 20 minutes with us three down - that on top just reinforces the impression that he fucked it up badly last night.

he most certainly did and he knew it too

Meh big fuss over nothing. The first team would have been rolled over just as easily.

We're shit in Manchester. 3 wins in over 20 years.

Thanks for that Joe - I had managed to erase that from my memory.
