Heroes Discussion / Re: Amadou Onana« Last post by SoccerHQ on February 01, 2026, 09:02:43 PM »Mad we played him v Salzburg. Shouldn't have been involved at all.
In a tricky game situation we were without all four first choice CMs. I'd have put him on last 15 minutes just to try to cause issues during a set play as we had plenty of corners and long throws near the end and did little with all of them. I think they put Collins on actually anticipating we'd put Onana on a few minutes after. 93

Heroes Discussion / Re: Tammy Abraham - done« Last post by Ianu on February 01, 2026, 09:01:09 PM »Tammy is going to be very useful for us in the next year or so. I suspect in the summer, we will buy a top class striker. Watkins will be sold and Tammy will be the one who comes on in the 70th minute to replace our main striker.

Heroes Discussion / Re: Aston Villa v Brentford Post-Match Thread« Last post by SoccerHQ on February 01, 2026, 09:00:54 PM »Is there genuinely a top level side as bad against ten men so often as we are?
We were rubbish at it in the days of Bruce and DS but our team wasn't top level like it is now. In less than 12 months we've drawn at home to Ipswich when they went down to 10 men at 0-0. Sunderland went down to 10 men, we scored and still couldn't win and today I genuinely thought when Schade was walking off we'd probably concede quickly either side of half time and it happened. Certainly watching the second half we looked pretty clueless after the goal was ruled out. Spent 20 minutes wasting time trying to play intricate one twos on the left side of Brentford's box. Set plays were also poor as very often if you're struggling in open play just getting a free header in the box can create a good chance. I have a horrible feeling we might get this type of situation in a Europa league second leg so we need to wise up to this issue quickly. 96

Heroes Discussion / Re: Tammy Abraham - done« Last post by SoccerHQ on February 01, 2026, 08:56:50 PM »Not sure he touched the ball in their half for the last forty minutes. The way we play I'm not convinced he's going to score a huge amount for us. Was on the disallowed goal quickly which is how he scored so many for us in the championship and then plenty for Chelsea in prem and CL. He's a box striker so I don't think the elaborate build up is going to suit him. Eventually in last 15 minutes we realised we needed to start sending low crosses across the box but pretty much all of them were woeful efforts straight into Kelleher's arms. I think the plan is Ollie will continue to be first choice in prem as long as his fitness holds up and Tammy will get majority of Europa games we have (and also Newcastle in the cup). When you weigh up the respective goalscoring records that is logical. 99
Heroes Discussion / Re: Unai Emery« Last post by Ianu on February 01, 2026, 08:56:44 PM »Tonight made me wonder if Unai Emery is our version of Klopp. Klopp is obviously a much better manager than slot, yet it was slot who won the league. Maybe Unai is going to be the one who builds our club, yet it will be someone else who eventually wins something. I hope not

Heroes Discussion / Re: Will we qualify for the CL?« Last post by Aldridge Villa on February 01, 2026, 08:56:00 PM »Onana wasn't fit enough to play. Emery has stated that. It's 5 first teamers out. Half the team. Genuine first teamers, not Tottenham Ben Davies injured style first teamer. Actual players that play every game for us when fit.Correct. Can’t help but feel the loss of SJM , Tielemans and Kamara ain’t going to be tempered by incoming Luiz , Bailey et al. Going to be a tough month. Champions League chances 50/50 especially with Man U having found some form. |
