Hopefully Onana is just this weekend's Pau

Don't care too much about today but we could really do with Onana against the Forest thugs.

Ok, who was it that commented earlier in the week that Onana was putting a good run of games together?

Injured according to Townley

We rested Mings and Pau totally out the squad in the last couple of league games so I suspect Onana is the same this week.

Yes was in the training pics with some light strapping on, Id say he’ll start on Thursday

I suspect we won't be taking the option on Luiz and he was this seasons Diasasi, we had a need for a midfield body and now we don't.

Better to rest Onana if he has any slight knock. He has played a lot and would have had a couple of rests if Kamara had been avaialble.

4 changes from last and on the surface no less strong.

BBC text states Bogarde and no Onana, then shows Onana in the actual starting 11 picture.

Bogarde is the first obvious Onana replacement, not Luiz.
Title: Re: Fulham v Aston Villa match thread
Post by: Hookeysmith on April 25, 2026, 11:55:35 AM
I think it's great that Unai, the squad and most supporters feel comfortable with Bogarde starting as Onana is injured / tactically rested.

Come on Villa boys. Win today does a lot of psychological damage to the teams below us and puts us 3rd till Monday at least.

I remember him going down towards the end of the Sunderland match but he played on afterwards. So hopefully just a knock.

On Amadou Onana's absence: "He was not feeling good yesterday. He had some small pain. We have enough players to play, we are here being consistent. With Onana alongside him, maybe. Onana isn’t avaliable, though. That's why Bogarde has been chosen ahead of Barkley.

Fulham will tire eventually. They're doing what a lot of teams try against us, pressing high and closing down every one of our players instantly.

You can't do that for ninety minutes. At some point you have to take a breather and let the opposition's defence keep it for a bit.

Fulham worked their socks off all half.
Gave us absolutely no time on the ball, and so we struggled in possession. Only Watkins did OK. Buendia tends to wilt when marked closely, and Bogarde is having no impact physically.

But around the 65 minute mark I reckon the tide will start to swing in our favour.

Scruffy showing, the two chances after half an hour the best bit. McGinn subdued for half an hour, need to get him into the game more, the midfield is currently dysfunctional. Missing Onana.

I think we’ve given the ball away more times in tha half than any other game I can remember in recent years.  Some of that is undoubtedly because Fulham are full of energy in how they’re pressing.  They’ve also had a good run of the ball with some fortunate ricochets.

We need way more umpf.

Bogarde is well of the pace and Buendia only plays well against tiring sides. How many times do we pass to cash in defence and we tie ourselves in knots, cost us a goal last week. McGinn has been quiet so far and Tielemans is struggling with the pace. Hope to see better second half.

I think I'd reluctantly be looking to move Onana on in the summer. It's a shame because he's a great player, but if he's injured he's no use whatsoever.

And sadly, he's far too fragile, especially considering he plays in such a physically-demanding position.
