Friday 27th, 20.00 KO.
1-2
-
2-2
-
Back to winning. 2-0 - Tammy and Doug
-
Home win.
-
Not sure who Krejci is but he won't be playing against us.
-
Home win. Nailed on.
They have some fight in them, as displayed against Arsenal.
They will love to fuck us over as their last hurrah before they go down, and we just look lost.
-
8-0 Villa
-
0-4.
-
Not sure who Krejci is but he won't be playing against us.
One of three centre halves
-
This lot always seem to beat us in the land that time forgot, and with out current form I wouldn’t put it past them.
Feck that though, 2-1 us (Abraham, Watkins off the bench).
Martinez
Cash. Konsa. Torres. Mastsen
Luiz. Onana
Barkley.
Sancho. Abraham. Rogers

Tammy has to start. I'd go with Lindelof over Torres but picking Mings again just sends the wrong message. Hard to be positive after that shit show of a performance yesterday but the team above seems a bit better balanced.
-
We always play shite here even when we're in good form.
1-0 to them or 0-0.
We're gonna score less goals than the barren spring of '92 at the current rate.
-
Onana needs to be making a much bigger impact than he usually does and doesn't look like a £50m player right now: I think either play him further up the pitch or off the bench. We should play Barkley and Luiz as the MF pivot.
-

Barkley can't run, partnership with him and Luiz would be a disaster I think. Bogarde has been tried a few times and didn't perform. Onana is hiding. Massive problem in midfield.
-
This is going to be another tough one. Tammy must start although I think he'll start Watkins again.
One nil to us, Tammy 85th minute after coming on for Watkins in the 70th minute
-
Barkley has to start to find that ball between the lines. Would push Rogers left to free him up in space where we cant be blocked in the middle so easily. Torres a must, Sancho our best wide option compared with Buendia or Bailey.
Absolutely no excuse not to drum this shite.
-
We have to start playing better. Need to win.
-
No good ever comes from the temple of custard.
1-0 to them.

Well, you may be right but we need someone in the middle with a bit of guile who reads the game. Barkley played in the deeper role for Luton so I think it's worth a shot against the league's lowest team.

Pointless playing Onana if we dominate possession. I don’t think he’s had a good game in a Villa shirt when we’ve dominated possession,

No excuses. Win.
-
No excuses. Win.
This is correct.
-
Could have done without this being a Friday night game - their fans will be well up for it. Also means the potential to ruin the entire weekend.
-
This is basically the last game that genuinely matters to them this season. The crowd will be up for it, if we start like we have of late it will completely play into their hands. We absolutely must make a fast start and now allow them to generate any belief.
-
For me, this has home win all over it. They really have picked up and ok are down, but we are not playing well at all.
-
Wolves are absolutely shit. We just need to be less shit to beat them. I realize that sounds obvious and I know it’s a derby and all that but if we have any pretensions of making it to the CL we have to beat one of the worst sides to ever play in the PL.
-
We’re wading in murkyish waters. Our detritus levels go up a notch at Wolves. Maybe sneak a draw.
-
No side has got more points in their last 10 away games than us (20).

An early goal will make the inbreds turn on their sisters/brothers/mom/dad. Imagine the fallout when they go behind in their cup final and realise that they’re not getting their oats.
-
In our last 8 visits to their place we have won once, drawn once and lost six. It’s never easy there for us and I’m expecting another hard night.
-
Get Harvey in. We all need a lift.
-
They were unlucky to lose to us at Villa Park this will be a tough game for us 1 - 1
-
Good chance to see what this Mane kid is like that plays for the dog heads, then we can poach him if he's decent

I hope he’s not decent Friday.

They always drag us down to their level, and even below, when we play them though. Even our home game against them wasn't great. I'll be happy with a point, and amazed with a win.
-
I moved closer to Wolverhampton than Birmingham last summer but at the same time further away from the modern world. For the first time in my life I see more than one Wolfs fan in the pubs or walking the streets, looking morose these days, lamenting the change to decimal currency as well as the abject form of their football team I would imagine.
Just like Sangwell, they use the metric of league position as to who are their local rivals so they have calmed down where we are concerned but will stoke it up again on Friday for old times sake.
I feel another drab, uninspired performance from us, mainly because that's how we tend to play there. Emery will be guarded and cautious but I can see our poor run coming to an end soon, perhaps not on Friday though.
0-0
-
This is the one chance Wolves will have a chance to put a smile on their supporters faces in an otherwise abysmal season. Their FA Cup final.
They will win the midfield battle.
Wolves 1 Villa 0.
-
I worry they'll bring not much skill (on account of them being shit) but lots of energy and drive to the game and our recent slow style is going to wobble.
Yeah yeah, they're super-shit but then again, so are Leeds.
It is also their cup final, the mind-the-gap cvnts.
-
Honestly, lost much of my optimism after Saturdays performance. Staring down the barrel of 1 point from the next 3 fixtures here and I think that's going to be a real problem if United win tonight.
-
2-1 Villa win
-
I’ve got be honest and say I’m shocked at the number on here who think we’ll lose this. They are, after all, the bottom team for a reason. If we turn up with the attitude that Arsenal displayed against them then maybe they’ll get something. I’m positive we won’t and I’m expecting a 2-0 or better for us
-
That it's probably the last game of any importance to their fans, they will be up for it. Saying that, they might be a bit more expansive than the sides we've played at home lately, which should suit us. We really need to win this one.
-

They've gotten a lot of unearned praise for that game. They where objectively pathetic for almost the entire match and only managed to get back into it thanks Arsenals unimaginable lack of conviction.
-
It's their cup final!
-
Get Harvey in. We all need a lift.
From England U21 star to Uber driver in just over 6 months.
-
Going for a 1-0 win Villa, here we go again, looking at a few Wolvo podcasts, they really fancy this, really think they have got what it takes to turn Villa over, they do realise we are 3rd placed and fighting for a place in the Champions league, and on the cusp of winning the Europa competition.
-
Our form isn't much better than theirs, though. And our last win there was...what, Robbie Keane's best game for us against his "boyhood team".
-

Indeed, we’re not playing anywhere near at the level that got us into the position we’re in. If we play like we have of late there’s every chance we’ll struggle. Hopefully this is the game when our performance turns a corner.
-
wrong thread
-
Last time we won there Luiz was sent off.
-
We have to win.
-
We have to win.
It looks that way, pressure now on.
-
Think we need to start Tammy and Sancho- both look like there full of confidence and in form.
Id drop Mings - and bank on us scoring a goal or two.
-
Torres needs to come back in.
-
It’s Wolves if we let them turn us over, we won’t deserve champions league there relegated. 1:3 to us and they won’t deserve the one. UTV
-
I’d try and get Lindelof and Bogarde is there somewhere for a half.
Keep the press on.
-
I'd go .
Martinez
Cash Konsa Torres Maatsen
Barkley. Luiz
Sancho. Rogers.
Abraham Watkins
I think we'd just play them off the park.
-
Must win and a certain few players need to pull their finger out
Emi
Cash Konsa Pau Maatsen
Luiz Onana
Sancho Barkley Rodgers
Tammy
Dont want to see Mings, Buendia or Ollie anywhere near the starting lineup

I agree , this is probably the strongest team we can field right now.
Luiz and Onana have to turn up.
-
Time to put calming whale music on...
-
Lindelof has been excellent for us in whatever position he's been asked to play, and at whatever stage of a game, and it's a mystery to me as to why we have not been calling much more on his reliability and experience during this difficult time of injuries to key established players. He'd be first on my list of starters v Wolves, and I don't care in what position.
-
Agree with all of that.

Luiz and Onana have to turn up.
We have to start on the front foot too. If we start off on walking football, Wolves will come at us, Martinez will throw one in on 9mins, and we'll be huffing and puffing to no avail for the rest of the game as they dig in.
-
The level of inferiority complex you must have to contrive events against a side who have lost 20 games and conceded 51, who are currently the worse there's been for many, many a decade is quite something.
-

Our league position would have had us easily beat Everton, Brentford, Bournemouth and Leeds. It’s our dire form that worries me. Of course Wolves can beat us.
-

People said the same or similar before Everton. And Leeds.
All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again.
-
Onana needs to put in a performance as I’m rapidly running out of patience with him. He should be showing far more than he has recently.
-
I'd go .
Martinez
Cash Konsa Torres Maatsen
Barkley. Luiz
Sancho. Rogers.
Abraham Watkins
I think we'd just play them off the park.
Yes, despite my reservations about Sancho this is probably what I'd go with.
-

As I stated, and was pilloried in some quarters for, our midfield is weak at the moment so I would bring in Lindelöf to sit in front of the back four, playing the Kamara role, stepping in to help as another CB and breaking up play. He is a good passer, not of the quality of Torres but ok and while he won't attack like Kamara but he may bring some steel and stability. Yes we have to change formation, perhaps lose a winger but I agree that his experience and talent would be valuable in a side struggling for inspiration.
-
Start positively please.
-
Onana needs to put in a performance as I’m rapidly running out of patience with him. He should be showing far more than he has recently.
Not sure he can, he is limited.
-
Time to put calming whale music on...
It never caught-on in Wolverhampton.
-
Onana needs to put in a performance as I’m rapidly running out of patience with him. He should be showing far more than he has recently.
I think Dougie has been on the same level if not worse, Onana has shown at times that he can be dominant and play well.
-
In Wolves a whale is something with spokes.
-

Bringing in Lindelof to play in midfield v Wolves would be negative in a McLeish type manner. I'd play him at centre back alright.

That’s the reason why I’m picking him out. We’ve seen what he can do but we haven’t seen enough of it. Luiz can be sort of excused as he is relatively new. I know he’s not that new but still he has to bed in and quickly.
-
Had not considered this until i heard a comment on a podcast.
Luiz has hardly played for a year so fitness and mental sharpness will take time to return and also Onana has never played with him before where as he is on a fluent language level with Kamara and plays on a regular basis with Uri at International level.
In the engine room it is very important that the pivots are on a mental wavelength together. It is no wonder they are not yet beginning to gel correctly
I hope it clicks soon

Our dire form of two wins, two draws and two defeats? Against Wolves 1 draw and 5 defeats? Super dire maybe? Dire Wolf?
1 win in 28. Of course they could, in an abstract meta sort of way. But, inferiority complex aside, we should expect to sweep these Lee Jeans and black shoe wearing gimps aside.
-
Wolves have 2 draws.
-

Our midfield has been overrun in the last few games, it's not negative to try and shore it up with what we have.
-
Lindelof is also not too shabby in his choice of when to push forward, and he can certainly pass the ball well, witness his pass to Rogers for our third goal at West Ham, I think it was.
-
Tammy Abraham has scored more goals against Wolves than he has against any other team in his career (6), including a hat-trick at Molineux in 2019. (Villa Statto)
He surely has to start on Friday.
-
I've also thought about Lindelof as the CDM. This allows Onana the freedom to get forward as he did before Kamra got injured.

He definitely has to start but a hat trick seven years ago is down the list of reasons 😀

we do not have good form there
and we are not playing very well, this is their cup final.

Of course Wolves can beat us, regardless of every stat you want to chuck at this it will be 11 players v 11 players that walk out on the pitch and then who really wants it the most, that is of course unless the Wolves kit involves them wearing Lee jeans and black shoes, then we are well and truly stuffed.
-
Wolves are very shit. However if you slack off even a very shit side can catch you out as Arsenal found out against them. If we do our job we beat them. If we do our 'play half arsed for an hour' routine we could come unstuck. It's up to us to do our part as we'll be fielding 11 better players.
Or 10 if Bailey starts.

Some players enjoy playing against certain teams:
Ollie vs Brighton, Tammy vs Wolves. ;)
In the hatrick game you refer to, all those years ago, Tammy also scored an own goal! If he starts Friday, and I hope he does, hopefully he can avoid repeating a similar feat. :D
-
I am confident that we will win this game convincingly.
I base this prediction on the scientific method of dialectical materialism and the Fibonacci sequence.

We're building up to that. Its only Tuesday.
Scruffy twats. What sort of town bans away fans from all pubs? I can't think of anywhere else like that.
-
There aren’t any pubs in the city centre anyone would want to be seen dead in, so they’re doing away fans a favour to be honest.
-
I was there for a meeting at the end of last year (I think it was Remembrance Day - either that or the old fellas there are very proud of their service) and I went for a cleansing pint afterwards at the Lych Gate Tavern, which was alright for a Tuesday afternoon.
-
Yeah, that’s probably the least worst.
-
Wolverhampton is shit. It's like a crap Burnley.
-
Surely it's improved since September 2016!
-
Unfortunately not.
-
We are in iffy form and our recent history in Deliverance country is shite. However, in their last 8 home league games they have W1 D2 and L5 the draws have come more recently against Newcastle and Arsenal, but they am bottom for a reason ay they.

Is 'very shit' better or worse than the 'cack' that Leeds were? The 'cack' that came within a few minutes of turning us over.
My guess is that 'very shit' and 'cack' are broadly the same so, all things being equal, I'm going to plump for the same outcome.
Very shit 1 Cack 1
-
We didn't do our job, Leeds are still cack.
-
I love the best team anybody has watched in 34 years being called cack.
-
As usual, they'll save their performance of the season for us on Friday night.

It was a playful reference to a previous Leeds comment, my friend. Lighten up a bit, maybe?
I think that we are far from cack.

Haven't been for years, but the Posada was good. Didn't mind the Rock bar.
From memory, if you go on the train and go out the back entrance, you can avoid being kettles by the police and slip into a nearby pub (called something like The Great Western). Obviously you may need to fake a Yam Yam accent to fit in.
-
As usual, they'll save their performance of the season for us on Friday night.
And lose.
They're better under Edwards but still going down. There's a reason they've won once.
-
Drink in Bilston, treat yourself to some orange chips while you're there, and get a taxi to the ground before kick off.

Lad at work says Krejci has probably been their best player this season, which is nice.

Their cup final. Plus they’re hard to beat. We really need to win but I think we’ll draw or lose 1 nil.

How are they hard to beat??? They’re possibly the worst team In PL history. It’s all about our attitude not them. The right attitude we’ll win
-
Whilst I somewhat agree, we only just beat them at VP and they where arguably even worse then. There's no easy games in the Prem at this stage.
-
They've lost 4 of the last 6 and 20 out of 28. We've lost 6 all season and have lost away from home once in nearly 4 months. If they're hard to beat we must be invincible!
-
They're only hard to beat against us. At their ground, at least.

They’ve improved under Edwards. They aren’t winning games but they’re also not losing as many as they were. Drawn a lot in the past month, including against Arsenal from two down, Newcastle, Everton, Forrest. And we struggle at their place. They’ll make it a cup final for them.

Do we ever win Friday games?
-
They have 10 fucking points and 1 win in 28. What is wrong with people knocking at the knees playing this shite.
"Look lads they drew four games!". Terrifying. Fuck me lets strap up like we're 3rd in the fucking league for a reason. If we play half as well as we ought to, it doesn't matter what they do.
-
W1 D5 L11 in the league under Edwards. They've failed to score more than 1 in 15 of them. Their record in the last month is W0 D2 L4.
We can't just rock up thinking that's all we need to do for a win but they have fuck all to worry us, it all depends on what we do. We play well we'll win, if we don't then it's on us.
-
Well yeah, but that last point is the whole issue at the moment. We’re not playing well - hopefully Friday is when that changes.
-
But that has nothing to do with Wolves and this hard to beat stuff. Even with our injuries how many of their players would you want in our starting 11 Friday?
-
Oh I agree, it’s not really about Wolves - except I’m sure they’ll play to whatever their max is. It’s about us and our recent inability to offer any sort of meaningful goal threat from open play. Albeit that’s been most acute at home. That’s what needs to change.
-
Do we ever win Friday games?
We've won our last three, unbeaten in our last six.

It’s not knocking at the knees for me. It’s more that we struggle against a low block where the opposition have numbers back (which they will most likely do and did effectively against us in November), we’re not creating as many opportunities as we were and looking at what we could reasonably expect be the reality. We were third in the league when we faced Everton, Brentford and Leeds at home this year and picked up precisely one point, scoring one goal. It’s not unrealistic to think there may be a continuation here.

They have 10 fucking points and 1 win in 28. What is wrong with people knocking at the knees playing this shite.

We are the most effective side against low block opposition in the league, with Man City behind us.
Wolves are the worst team in the league, one of the worst teams to have ever been in the league. We were 3rd when we beat Brighton twice, Chelsea, Man United, Newcastle etc. There is absolutely no excuse for not going to Wolves and winning. It would be utterly disgraceful to do anything but.
-
Do we ever win Friday games?
We've won our last three, unbeaten in our last six.
I know you're at least as pious as me. But that could, to the gods, sound like a challenge. Not that I can speak for them.
I think (hope) I've countered it by reminding everyone that we are always shit at Wolves.

There aren’t any pubs in the city centre anyone would want to be seen dead in, so they’re doing away fans a favour to be honest.

Our office used to be right next door to the Posada. We then sold up to a pub chain but I think the pub it became is no longer there.

We need to start well and quieten the home crowd.
They have nothing left to play for except a bit of pride. If they can contain us for any prolonged period of time, the crowd will get behind them, and every corner, long throw and free kick will be cheered on like they've won the FA Cup.
We need to be on the front foot and attack them early and hopefully get the early goal.
We need a decent ref too.

I'd go

Morz and Ollie playing just behind but either side of Tammy. Go right at them.

Id go for Ads team 100%
-
I'd still persevere with Buendia ahead of Barkley, for the extra pressing and energy. And if they are going to sit back, I'd feel more confident about Buendia popping one in from 25 yards than I would Barkley.
Save Barkley for the last half an hour when an extra body a bit further back would be useful and in case DL or Onana need replacing.
Otherwise Ads' team.
-
Ads for manager (when Unai retires).

Baring any injury between now and then - that has to be the team
But if Unai has a weak spot he is stubborn and always seems to stick with his plan A
Buendia / Mings and Bailey can have no complaints at all and maybe even more effective for Bailey and Buendia to come on at 70 mins either to hold the lead to chase it

Yeah, why can't they play as shite as that tomorrow?
-
Tell Villa Statto I hate him, thanks.

The women's team would beat Wolves and they aren't very good. Still better than Wolves though.
-
And the last team they. Beat wear claret and blue ( sort of)
The omens.

Tell Villa Statto I hate him, thanks.
I told him and he said you were probably (98.6%) a standard deviation from the mean.
When I told him that Marx stated that “All science would be superfluous if the outward appearance and the essence of things directly coincided”, he called me a Hegelian nitwit.
-
That sounds like him, the bourgeois apologist twat.
-

The omens.
Wolves have won five of their last six home games against claret and blue teams, including two out of three this season (they also beat West Ham in the League Cup).
I think I might just watch something else instead.
-
Black away kit tomorrow then.
-
Good plan.

Due to reasons too boring to go into here I’m now attending the match. The last time I was at Molineux was for the Houllier masterclass 2-1 win with a “jumped like a salmon” Heskey late winner.
More of the same please Villa.
-
That was a hell of a header.
-
His finest moment in a Villa shirt, not that there were many highlights.

You are now the self-elected talisman for the game this evening. Carry your responsibilities lightly and bring home a victory!!

That game when Torres scored the equalizer my 2 kids were at one end of the stand and I was at the other
when our goal was shown on MOTD it zoomed in on a section of our fans celebrating only to see my then 15 year old standing on his chair giving the wankers shake to the wanky wanderers fans
I didn’t know whether to be ashamed or proud of my parenting skills that night

Definitely proud.

Hard to downplay what 3 points would mean tonight. Cannot see Chelsea getting anything at the Emirates, that's a 9 point gap going into Wednesday with the opportunity to turn it into 12 on the night, which would be an absolutely colossal gap for Chelsea to chase with their run in.
Enormous 5 days for the club coming up.

I don't ask for everyone to share my belief in the gods, but please consider the deeply-held faith of others before posting thoughts like this.
I don't say anything about ISAs, insurance, MOTs or the other mad things people involve themselves in. All I ask is for the same respect to be shown.
-
I don't drive, nor have much of any savings to speak of. I do however pay for pet insurance, so I'll take your point on board ;)

Please don’t, I have seen a few too many un hatched chickens on here over the last year.

Yes and now that Chelsea have also got PSG twice in March I can see them slipping away from contention rapidly.
-
That’d be nice but we need to start consistently winning games to properly exert pressure on them.
-
Their record against us at their place is ridiculously strong. Time to address that.

Equally they've never been as bad as they are now.

We were pathetic in the extreme there last season. Huge selection decision for Emery, really isn't a night for stalwarts like Mings, Digne or Watkins. We will get dragged into a battle if Mings is let have the ball again and Watkins is stuck to the ground up front. Let Torres and Luiz dictate the play and expose these guys. Onana to physically impose himself early on when they are getting stuck into us. If he doesnt do it early on hook him at half time, he either steps up to the mark tonight or pisses off. Really don't have much faith in likes of Sancho and Barkley, especially if it turns into a battle. Control the ball and they can have an impact. Think Barkley might get a goal tonight. Got into good positions v Leeds.
Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Torres, Maatsen, Onana, Luiz, Sancho, Rogers, Barkley, Tammy.

Torres not in any of the pre match training photos, might not be an indicator of anything.

If that's the case then Lindelof should be in. On form he should be anyway. Don't think he's had a bad game for us at centre back yet.
-
He was pictured in the training video posted on the 25th with them all in the gym.

Yes tonight is massive. I think we have to get a least 4 points from the next 2 games. I have said for a while now that it will be us or Chelsea for 5th spot, given their run in. Therefore, it is vital that we do not lose to Chelsea on Wednesday. However, if the worst comes to the worst and we were to get beaten tonight, I think we would also lose on Wednesday.
-
I'd go .
Martinez
Cash Konsa Torres Maatsen
Barkley. Luiz
Sancho. Rogers.
Abraham Watkins
I think we'd just play them off the park.
Yes, despite my reservations about Sancho this is probably what I'd go with.
Change of heart:
Martinez
Cash Konsa Torres Maatsen
Bogarde Luiz
Barkley
Rogers Abraham Watkins

Massive game for Onana tonight. We need him to return to his pre-injury form, do that and we'll destroy them.
-
From an approach point of view we absolutely have to stamp authority on the game - not do the incredibly slow passive start thing. Against poor sides the danger comes if you don’t attack them and expose their weaknesses. If we sit back it will embolden them - we need to go at them.
-
Torres not in any of the pre match training photos, might not be an indicator of anything.
He might of been taking the pictures.

It's a wet one out there.Might suit us.

I assume you mean in recent times, because they've been way way worse than they are now
