Post by: Drummond on October 24, 2025, 04:37:55 PM
Garcia and Tielemans out. Digne Doubtful.

Otherwise I expect a bunch of chnages from the Europa League game.

                Martinez
Cash Konsa       Torres    Maatsen
             Kamara   Bogarde
Rogers          Buendia          McGinn
                   Watkins

I think this team, though Emery might pick Onana ahead of Bogarde.
They haven’t beaten us at home since the 2-1 in early December 2021 and we deserved a draw then, Chukeumeka missed a good chance from memory.
I think they are due a win at our place then and probably will beat us.
But f*ck all that.
2-1 us (Rogers, McGinn)

I’d prefer Bogarde to Onana but suspect Emery will go with Onana.

Not sure what Ollie has done to warrant a start over Malen? He was electric in our last home game.

Hopefully they've spent the last couple of days concentrating on penalties. If we get one on Sunday it will be very interesting. I'm going for a 1-0 to us. We need to show we have bouncebackability.

Thats a different set of universal equations. We will never win at their place, even when they are eventually bumped down to Div 2 and we draw them in the cup, the footballs God dictate we lose to man city away.

Please attack them and take shots Villa. Brentford and Sunderland showed today how teams who on paper are not favourites and take the game to supposedly better sides. If are slow, deliberate and in a way subservient, Man City have too much firepower to now take advantage of having the ball. We simply have to take the game to them.

You could say that Eamon. It's great to be here, we've had great time since we arrived. A good/great result would top it off nicely.

Firstly, negative points for not putting 'journalism' in quote marks like I just did, which makes my point not just relevant, but satirical.

'Journalism' (I did it again because I'm relentlessly satirical) is like every other 'profession' (I'm not scared of anyone), in that it adheres to a commercial imperative. Rashford is doing well at Barcelona. He did aright here, but that doesn't really fit the narrative. Who cares?

Plenty of people said how well Rashford was doing at Villa, tbf. The Guardian are still toadying lackies, though. Do they still list every tedious Duke and Earl that nobody has ever heard of in their "birthdays" section?

I agree that it adheres to its commercial imperative, and it might be worse now than at other times, and I don't think it's a problem pointing it out - saying it's part of an anti-Villa conspiracy obviously is silly, but saying shit things are shit when you see them being shit strikes me as something a person can do.

Very difficult to guess what X1 Emery will go with today. We should be going in full of confidence but
that feckless effort on Thursday night won't have helped matters. Should Mings stay in to deal with Haaland? I think Guessand will stay in for this one with Rogers and McGinn. One of Bogarde or Onana next to Kamara. Maatsen didn't do enough during the week to displace Digne.

Impact from the bench will be key today.

It feels different facing the 115 ers after the last couple of seasons, they don't seem so invincible but it's still a really tough game and after Thursdays mess we are on the back foot slightly. Not enough to lose though.

And I agree with you. There's basically only a cigarette paper between my current position and being an absolute fucking Tory (it would be quite on-brand for me to decide to be a Tory at this stage in that party's development) because my default position is that it's almost always YOUR FAULT if you don't like the way the world works.

Daniel Levy realised this. Spurs were an afterthought of a club, but he decided to make them relevant by making them good. There's no reason why Villa can't do the same, and every passing newspaper article or Twitter skit that refuses to give us our due is OUR FAULT, because we've decided to be not good enough.

Edit: I meant to say that my cigarette paper is holding together some pretty hardcore MDMA so I love everyone all the time.

We’ve won twice with him doing it before. I suspect Haaland will score though, and my biggest worry is I don’t think we’re creating enough or scoring simple goals at the moment. That isn’t really sustainable.

I think putting Mings in to deal with Haaland would be a massive mistake. Not only is Mings not good enough to do that (is anyone?) but we lose our best defensive partnership and Torres’ is so important to everything we do well.

I do think our only way of getting something from this is by really getting at them. We won’t win by slowing everything down.

Haaland has scored in his last 12 games for club and country, and in 19 of his last 21. So he won't score today.

Yep it’d be negative and the wrong approach. We’ve also won the last two games against Citeh with Pau playing.

He’s important and should start anyway, but without Tielemans it’s essential that he does.

Not sure I agree in this case. It's not meant to be a story of his career so far. It's literally about how Flick is using him at Barcelona. No real need to mention us in that context really.
