The mug in me says we will win the same in regular time. 2-0 to us. Malen and Guessand. But it might be any outcome and very much one where we don’t score yet again in 90 minutes.
-
They were crap when we played them. We look crap...0-0 Martinez wins it on pens.
-
With the start to the season we've had it will not be a good look if we just give up the league cup without even trying.
Losing to a weak Brentford twice in less than a month would be dismal.
I'll go for a 1-2 win.
-
We might have a chance of scoring if we can take it to pens.
-
2-0
-
Start all the new boys perfect opportunity.
I think it will be pau and lindelof at cb with bizot in goal.
Give malen a start as well
-
0-0, then we'll miss all our penalties.
-
1-0 us off Konsa’s arse
-
Some of you think we're scoring a goal ever again?! Dreeeeamer.
-
Our lowest priority competition.
We already looked half arsed in our first priority competition so will we even bother trying ?
2-0 loss, we will maybe get 1 shot on target and force 3 corners.
-
1-0 to us the new boys do well and Sancho scores.
-
Great that we have a game so soon.
Going for a 2-1 win and a launchpad for Sunderland at the weekend.
Sancho and Malen.
-
Time for the squad players to step up, except a lot of them are injured.
-
I can't believe how little optimism I have!
-
2-0 Villa. The mental dam breaks.
-
A thankless trip back to Brentford Nylons on a wet Tuesday night.
But this is where the tide turns on the back of a hotch potch team selection, we get a slice of luck here and there and a goal to see us through.
0-1
-
Brentford win. The misery continues.
-
If we play anything like we did yesterday, and Brentford put half the effort in like they did against Chelsea…….theres only one winner.
-
Brentford ?? Aston Villa 0
-
We'll play the reserves, we'll be shit, we'll go out.
-
Squad players have an opportunity to stake a place v Sunderland. They should go for it. We can put this Pau being a much better option for a more cohesive defence to attack that has been mentioned on here. Might as well give it a go.
-
Going for a Villa win based on absolutely no sense whatsoever, Brentford coming to this having already beaten us and a good result yesterday.
Brentford 0 Villa 1
One thing is for sure, we need to treat this competition seriously.
-
We'll play the reserves, we'll be shit, we'll go out.
Good news is our reserves might not be any worse than our first team, now...
-
We'll play the reserves, we'll be shit, we'll go out.
Personally I want to see a front four of Malen-Guessand-Elliott-Sancho so have no issue.
Rest of side probably picks itself especially central midfield where we're just down to McGinn and Bogarde currently so think it will be fairly strong.
Given the dismal league start it would not be good just to give up the league cup this early compared to previous seasons. We don't play until Sunday and European hasn't even started yet.
-

There’s no way we can be worse than we have been first 4 games. We might match that level, but to be as bad going forward as we have been is almost impossible to sustain.
-
Bizot in goal. Game finishes 0-0. We lose on pens.
-
What's the craic with the title of this thread? Bad English would not be happy. Tsk.
-
I'd play;
Martinez
Cash, Lindeloff, Torres, Maatsen
McGinn, Bogarde
Guessand, Elliott, Sancho
Malen
-
throw in Jadon , Harvey , Guessand and Malen from the start or I might just watch slow horses instead , which reminds me of Villa at the moment .
-
Yeah this is a game to try shit out in. Pau in the double pivot? An all newboys attack? 4-3-3? Anything that might surprise the oppo even slightly.
-
It's been flat since we lost to Palace at Wembley for me, please just score. An ugly win would be wonderful.
-
3-0 to the Villa Boys.
Then we get Man City away in the next round.
-
I'd play;
Martinez
Cash, Lindeloff, Torres, Maatsen
McGinn, Bogarde
Guessand, Elliott, Sancho
Malen
I like the look of that
-
That's the team I'm expecting. Long drive from West Wales for a night game. Hopefully we actual score a goal! and definitely need to play better than any of the games this season. Looking forward to seeing Sancho play. Please win Villa...

He probably will play but Torres was bullied in the league game against these a couple of weeks back. Lindelof/Torres not exactly suited to a battle.
Wouldn't be surprised to see three CBs given a go. Lindelof/Torres/Mings. Cash and Maatsen wide and 3 from Sancho/Guessand/Elliot/Malen up front.

Wouldn't be surprised if CDBF puts you on 'Ignore' now.

😄 I'm not proposing it! Cash's efforts at RWB won't be one for the purists. Maatsen should be ok on the other side. Just wouldn't surprise me if Emery thought both lindelof and Torres needed minding a bit.
-
No chance.
3 nil to Brentford
-
Will serious questions start being asked of Unai if we have a repeat performance and blank score sheet?
-
Is Hemmings fit? If he is, I'd be starting him.
-

How many times?
-
0 0 brentford pens

I just can't help but feel there might be a better option on the right than Cash in that role, though it's escaping me who that might be...

Was there a presser for this or did Unai tell Daz Hale and Tom Ross to fcuk off and get a life?

Press asked a few questions and answer to all for tomorrow's game was....... Bizot.
-
We need to win this and the game at the weekend. A couple of defeats this week and alarm bells will start to ring .

I think we can get away with losing this, but a defeat at Sunderland would definitely put the cat among the pigeons.
Probably the worst type of game under the circumstances ,a disparate team of new starts, fringe and returnees up against bunch of cloggers on a wet windy night at Brentford.
Not for the faint hearted , oh shit.
-
Opposition teams have worked us out. This turgid walk football is toothless against a low block. Will we even score?

Unai needs to dump this way of playing. Its been a eoic failure the last five games. This is the perfect opportunity tk try something new and inject some pace and creativity in the side. Start sancho malen and elliot. Maybe even have Guessand up top
Try something new from the stale negative shite we have seen all season thus far
-
We were poor in this competition when we had a strong side and a deep bench, we’ve regressed since then.
-
I don't think losing this game would be particularly damaging. I'm not saying I don't want to win it, I do, I never want to lose, I just don't think losing a LC match where we play a rotated side (I presume) is ever going to be particularly impactful.
I do think, though, that another league match without scoring at the weekend would really start to weigh heavy.
I am not saying it would put the manager at risk, I am saying it would really start to weigh heavy around the necks of the players, and the atmosphere around the club would be fast becoming rotten.
-
Agree with that pauliewalnuts, only to add that most fans will give Unai all the time he needs to get things back on track, but some will start to spout 'Emery out' nonsense if the current malaise continues for a couple more games.
-
None more so than Watkins will feel the pressure. But, he’s a strong lad and he will handle it.

I think we really could do without Emery throwing this one like he did v Palace last year. Where we are right now we can't afford that. Crumb of comfort in that Emery's change at half time the last day did make us a lot more solid out of possession.
If anything else we really need the likes of Malen, Sancho etc to show something tonight and put some regulars under pressure for PL minutes. Always difficult when they are thrown in together.
-
Disagree entirely, this is one of the few pots we can realistically expect to bag. However, I'd like Emery to take a risk tonight, change the team, tactics, formation and try some front foot, attacking and more direct football. What's to lose?
-
On paper you got a side with a rookie manager sold their best players and have dross like NAthan Collins, lewis potter, pinnock, henderson as their spine. (Their new striker was wearing 2 year old boots the other day, unheard of in the money league) there would be twitter meltdown if we signed any of these! They've only got a chance because of our off the field problems.
It was pretty even in the league apart from the gift goal so I'm going for nil nil draw and Martinez the hero in the shootout.
-
Just toss the league and lets do a LC and europa double. Whatever spurs can do we can do better!

Maybe we could trial a slow version of "Oh when the Lions go marching in..." tonight.

The game, I suppose! I get your point though.
-
I'd like us to win it. But I am also going tonight because that is what I do and without much enthusiasm for the fixture. Like Wycombe, something to endure rather than enjoy. Whereas I am looking forward to a return to Sunderland on the weekend.
-
Martinez
Cash
Konsa
Torres
Maatsen
Bogarde
McGinn
Guessand
Elliot
Sancho
Malen
-
I'd agree with Ads on the line up, if now's not the time and this isn't the game to try something entirely new in the attacking areas then when is?
Simply can't be any worse than what we've seen so far this season. If it somehow is then we go back to Watkins, Rogers etc on Sunday, however if by some miracle we bang a few in tonight we go with something similar at the weekend.
-
I think there's connectivity there between Maatsen/Sancho/Malen. If Maatsen pulls inside Sancho will be used to holding width or vice versa, to pull defenders out of position/keep them stretched. Elliot I really like and he can lead the aggressive press.
3-1 Villa. Man United in the next round. Oh no wait...
-
I too like Ads team. The Dortmund Connection is worth giving it a go. I just hope Unai doesn't change completely the team by throwing in a group of kids. As I've said before, give the kids a real chance to shine playing with the first team players. It's the only way to judge them.
-
Not convinced Sancho will start, as rumoured to be way off match fitness.
-
Yes like that team, but like has been said its debatable whether Sancho is fit. If not stick Malen out there and Watkins up top, he needs a goal.

I like ads team but if sancho is not fit this is a great alternative that rambo has suggested
-
A bit galling that Sancho is presumably our highest earner at the moment yet isn't up to speed. If his fitness is good (and unless there's been an injury, I imagine it is) he has to get match-practice sometime. Tonight is a game that matters little in the grand scheme so I hope we can chuck him in.
-
I'm still unsure if our issues are tactical or if some players are in a sulk. Even when in good form Villa have treated this cup as a unwanted distraction, so hard for me to see us stepping out of neutral tonight. I hope I'm wrong and we go and buckle some swash.

I know what you mean. Part of me wants the players to be allowed some freedom and to express themselves and thus that we just go for it.

Kamara in the squad
